Tell me about LinkedIn

Should I start taking it seriously? Anyone have any positive experiences with using it to get hired or find new opportunities for sales etc.?

I'm beginning to enjoy it. I join group conversations concerning my work and it is a great way to stay updated and get some new ideas.

If you do it right it's a gold mine. Especially for Oil & Gas Engineering/Technical jobs.

Hit up google for tips to set up your profile correctly.

It's also nice if you've worked with alot of people that have moved around a few times and have large networks in the industry you work in.

Don't get me wrong, you will get hit up by recruiters for jobs you don't want, in places you don't want. Deleting an email is easy.

It's awesome for Sales. My current position was generated through a recruiter that contacted me on LinkedIn.

Waste of time. People constantly "endorse" my work, even if they barely know me. They are only looking for me to return te favor.

Not a waste of time if you're looking for a job, especially engineering jobs. And it doesnt even take up time either.

LinkedIn works best with well sort after careers e.g. engineering, computer science, math etc

For other professions I think it's great for networking.

I actually find it useful. Needed a preceptor for my clinical rotation and found someone on LinkedIn. So it had its uses for me in the nurse practitioner field. Would guess it would be good for anyone in health care. Have had a few recruiters contact me about future jobs.

Essential if your in a finance or consulting capacity. I used to think it was a waste of time also, but have truly found it to be a great tool in networking. Finance and consulting are entirely driven through networking to find work.

re: Tell me about LinkedIn

I have gotten tons of sales leads from it by simply watching who a few of my competitors are making connections with.

Y'all keep up the good work.
