In 2 weeks, I'll be set loose into the wilderness. Flying into Kalispell, staying at Apgar Lodge and Many Glacier.

Can anyone recommend any food and hikes?

It's right in the middle of huckleberry season.

You'd be amazed at how much cajun shrimp is on the menus with just a quick glance at yelp.

I've been there actually. But I was 12 and I am now 33, so that was a long time ago.

It was the most memorable trips of my life though. You will love it.

Get a passport and go into Waterton (Canadian side of Glacier). Visit the Prince of Wales hotel.

Was there last Labor Day. Absolutely amazing. Whitefish might be one of the coolest towns I've ever been to.

We spent almost all of our time in Whitefish so I can only recommend these places:

Great Northern Brewing - excellent beer and cool place to sit and people watch. Get there early afternoon and enjoy the scenery and conversation at the downstairs bar.

Tupelo Grill was awesome. Make reservations!

Wasabi Sushi Bar was great. Make reservations!

Piggyback BBQ was average but cool place to sit outside and listen to live music

Craggy Range Bar and Grill had pretty good bar food

If you have time, the zip lines at Whitefish Mountain Resort are lots of fun. You should also take the ski lift to the top of the mountain. Awesome views

Hiking:

We only had one morning to hike so we did the Highline Trail - make sure you get to Logan's Pass early. It will fill up by 10am and traffic can be bumper to bumper. Get an early start up the mountain. There's also a trail behind Logans Pass which takes you to an amazing lake. You take a boardwalk half way. Saw mountain goats and other animals. View at the end is awesome so keep going all the way up the trail.

If you're going to some remote trails, bring bear spray, the proper equipment and don't hike solo if you can help it. Grizzly bears everywhere. Have fun

Oh and how far in advance did you book your rooms? We wanted to stay in the park some of our trip but everything was sold out.

Highline looks awesome though daunting. Since we're staying at Many Glacier, I figured my little brother and I could handle it, right?

Planning on going to Whitefish famers market the first day, I think we get in at 3, then going into the park.

It's not as bad as it looks but it's pretty narrow and steep. My wife did it just fine.

Main thing is running out of breath and getting worn out on the trail. It can also get kind of boring b/c it's the same views for several miles. We didn't want to hike to the shelter so we turned around. Everyone that made the roundtrip hike said it was awesome.

Oh and since it was so early, the sun hadn't hit the ledge and it was cold as hell. Warmed up nicely later in the day but the crowds came out too.

Your little brother might like Whitefish Ski Resort's zip line, ski lifts and mountain sleds. Kind of expensive but worth looking into.

I didn't. Folks have us on a pretty regimented schedule, but I'll be fishing one day and rafting the next.

Little bro is 18, guess I forgot to mention that.

i went about 10 years ago. The marina is the shite I thought.

Actually CSB, we met phil jackson and his GF and his twin brother (damn close if they are not twins). They were eating at the table next to us. My brother took a pic and forgot to turn the flash off... My dad apologized for that when they were leaving and he said to tell them to come outside and he will take a pic.

He told us that Shaq rented the place out for one of his bdays as well.

This marina overlooks the water. Great food as well.

Go to lake waterton on Canadian side and take ferry back into us. You end up at goat haunt. Spend the night there. Next day hike up to stony Indian pass. There's a good hike that continues another 3 days and ends up back at the Canadian border. Most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

Also check out big mountain above whitefish. There used to be a place called hellroarers saloon

Edit: damn I just realized this was a bump. Guess I missed the thread a couple weeks ago. I'm sure the trip was incredible.

Logan's Pass on Going-to-the-Sun Road. It still will have snow up there.

Lake McDonald is gorgeous.
