Is it a given that he is the fifth d-back off the bench whether its in a cornerback, safety or a rover nickelback position.

That being said, when we go four/five corners and three safeties, in pure coverage to defend four or five wideouts against a long third down, do we put in two true cornerbacks? If so, who? Jalen, Jalen, Dwayne Thomas, Rashard/Tre'Davious?

Would Corey Thompson or Kavara Holmes get a sniff as a fourth or even fifth CB?

Eugene is a stud blitzing from the edge. Not quite at TM's level but who is?

Honestly don't remember noticing his play, good or bad, in coverage, so I think there is definitely potential for some young guys to jump him.

Definitely think he's a major factor in blitz packages though.

It was said the other day that Eugene is a damn good football player without a position. I think he fits the rover/blitzing back role to a T.

Exactly. You could put him at any DB position, and he would produce.

He will be in the Ron Brooks role from a few years ago. Blitzing off the edge, getting sacks and TFL.

Word was he was pressing too much last year to fill Mathieu's play making shoes and lost sight of his general responsibilities on the field.

He was valuable in the A&M game. Once Chavis went to a 3 man line and put Eugene in the game JFF stopped running wild

I'm glad he's come back down to earth. We may never see the things TM7 did on the field again

Seems that alot of our players were trying to do that last year...

Seems like a lot of people are forgetting that Eugene was just a redshirt FR last year and will be a redshirt soph this year. Dude still has a lot of time and room to grow and improve. I thought he was solid when got in. Made some plays, made some mistakes. Just like every young DB we had out there.

I really really like Eugene when he is in the "spy" position. Really changed the gave vs TAMU.

No hes not. Not at all. Jai was a big time prospect. Top 100 recruit IIRC. Also never proved to be a good player and was passed up by alot of younger players when he was at LSU. He underachieved.

Eugene was a small name 3* prospect that has seen legit PT as a RS freshman. Eugene is still young too. Like someone said. Hes a great football player with no real position. Hes a utility player and can do alot of good things on the field. Also a damn good RB too.

The coaches love Eugene too. Hes 1 of those guys that will step in for any drill or volunteer to do something at practice. Watch the spring videos. He does the drill and does it right, then anytime they need somebody to step in and get in the drill hes the 1st one in there.

Thanks for reading my posts

He'll be a stud on ST and will add quality depth to the defensive backfield
