Got a beach house in Seaside next week. Any must hit places for dinner? Will have 3 kids (boys, 3,8,10). I like eating Royal Reds and Crab Legs while watching the sunset over the water, so if there's anything like that within a 20 min drive, then cool...

TIA

All excellent choices, but none fit the criteria of enjoying reds and crablegs with an ocean view.

Of those, The Red Bar is the most casual. Fish out of Water has the best food, but is the most expensive. Bud and Alley's is somewhere in between.

Cafe 30A is the best, most consistent restaurant in the area. It is about 1 and 1/2 miles east of Seaside. However, it's not a kid type place. Take them to the pizza joint at Bud and Alley's.

Also, the BBQ Trailor thing at Seaside has maybe the best bbq beans I have ever had.

I don't know of anywhere along 30A to do this. That Shrimp Shack place in Seaside is, I suppose, the closest thing to it, but there's still a 20 foot sand dune between you and the Gulf (the ocean?) there. Bud and Alley's and Fish out of Water are the only Gulf View establishments I know of on that stretch.

Vue in Santa Rosa is pretty sweet. Cafe 30a is a solid place as well...

Lotsa great suggestions in this thread, but for lunch, you gotta just go to the Airstream trailers located in front of the town square. Right across the street from Bud & Allie's, they are pumpin' out some serious food !

We always go to Cafe Thirty-A when staying down there.

Other venues we frequent are:
Fish Out of Water
Bud & Alley's
George's
The Red Bar

I'm not a fan of the restaurant (bad experience the one time we went) but if you're looking for a sunset over water, there was always Commander's Palace at the Emerald Grande. I think they've since shut their doors.

Enjoy the traffic. We've been going to 30A for over 20 years and I have long been a proponent of all things 30A but it has gotten ridiculous over the last 5 years or so. It seems the masses have diiscovered the place - even the clientele has changed. Sorry for the rant, but the obvious change of 30A recently is frustrating.
