Hey guys, long time lurker on the OB.

I need a little advice. I have a Ruger LC9. Bought to use as my CC. The problem is I put 300 rounds through it and I don't like it. Couple of reason that I don't but the one thing I do like is the ease of concealment.

I was looking at the XDS 9MM(I've shot the XD and like it) but haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

Any other suggestions that I should look at? I want 9MM, Compact (3-4 inch barrel) and a budget of $500-$600.

No Keltec PF9. I've shot that and dislike it too.

Thanks OB!

Most of your subcompacts are not that fun to shoot. If you're looking for something pleasant to shoot and easy to conceal, you'll be better off looking for two guns.

Look at Kahr PM9. Might be able to get one used in your price range.

Why do you dislike it? Is the recoil uncomfortable? Trigger? Safety/no safety?

Hard to recommend a change if we don't know what exactly your beef with the LC9 is.

That said, my "go to" recommendation for a CC gun is the Kahr PM9. Given your budget, maybe the CM9 or CW9.

Check out a Ruger SR9c (3.6" barrel). They arent quite as small as a LC9 but are still very concealable. The compact magazine holds 10 rounds and comes with an optional pinky extension. The gun also comes with a full size magazine that holds 17 rounds. The gun is thin, light, reliable and has a 1911 style external safety along with the trigger safety.

could a revolver be a choice?

I like those. Or at least I think I do. They feel good but yet to shoot one
Same goes for the S&W M&P sub compact

Please no, this was by FAR the worst firearm I've ever owned. Sold it to my cousin and he now hates it. If you're even thinking about this as an option try to shoot one before or at least hold one.

the G26 quote was just a jab. Nice but the ones I listed above I think feel better.

Go to a shooting range that rents guns and try out the ones you are interested in to test them out before you buy another gun.

You can get recommendations from us but you must purchase the gun that you can shoot comfortably and accurately.

We have a lot of Glock-1911-XD fan boys on this board and will tell you how awesome their whatever shoots but everyone is different.

I have the XD 9 subcompact that I CC. Some would say its heavy for CC but it works for me. I'm a very proficient shot with it. I also have a quality CC holster with a quality belt to support the gun and holster.

If you like the way your current gun shoots but are having CC issues maybe look into a new holster and belt before spending another $500 on a new gun.

Check out a beretta nano, roughly same size as LC9 with smoother action and equally as concealable.

I have one on order

Recoil is a little rough but I hate the trigger pull.

I carry without the safety and one in the chamber with the LC9.

That's what I'm going to do.

I figured I'd ask here about what I should rent.

I saw that a lot of people like the S&W M&P. So I'm definitely going to rent one of those.

So far I'm going to try:

S&W M&P
Kahr PM9
Ruger SR9c
Springfield XDS 9mm

Thanks so far!

The way God intended.

Well here's the thing. If you like the concealability of your LC9, stick with something single stack. As much as I love my own SR9c, it is double stack and is a bit wider. Of course, with a good holster this isn't much of a bother, but the single stack guns are still easier to carry and conceal. The same is true with the M&P compact.

I also have a Kahr CM9, which is the dimensionally-identical, but cheaper PM9. It costs a bit less to manufacture and only comes with 1 magazine so Kahr was able to lower the price. It has a long trigger pull but I have yet to find a DAO trigger that is as smooth without grit.

The Springfield XDs and M&P Shield are two great options as well and both are single stack. You would get the same thin profile as the LC9 but with a better trigger. These triggers aren't as smooth as the CM9 trigger, but they have much less travel.

Check out my YouTube channel for my reviews, BigApple0828. I have a lot of videos of how I carry and what I carry.

Good luck on your choice! You came to the right place for advice.

What are your main problems with the Lc9? I'm a 1911 shooter but CC a LC9. I have CC'ed 1911's, M&P9c, XDc, and a couple others...I ended up with the LC9 because it was the most comfortable.

I did use Galloway Precision for the trigger upgrade and a few other parts. It's not the most pleasant to shoot but I have learned to like it because its comfortable.
