He signed a 5 yr/$43 million extension yesterday. Seems expensive for a slot guy, even if he's elite (which is up for debate). Is he worth that much?

Also, what does this mean for Nicks' next contract?

It's basically a two year, 16 million deal. All the rest is non-guaranteed money. It made him like the 20th highest paid receiver, I'd say he got underpaid.

Ok. Should he make more, equal, or less money than say a guy like DBowe?

I'd say equal and he got a much smaller contact than Bowe. Cruz took a discount to stay in New York.

Did he? What kind of interest was he getting as a RFA?

Being a RFA really kills your value. Have to pay Cruz almost 10 mil a year and give up a first round pick?

Right, so did he get underpaid if no one was going to sign him?

He seems like a high character guy, has elite quickness and had a monster and very good year (where he had no real help due to injuries). He's 26, giants got a steal.

I wouldn't necessarily call him a slot guy. He gets behind defenses an awful lot.

Hence the "up for debate" part, PJ.

And as far as guys who line up on the outside go, he's not elite. But he is an elite slot guy.

Nicks is better but will never stay healthy. They could probably get by for less but it's not that big of a deal.

Underpaid in terms of his value in an open market. Mike Wallace got little interest as a RFA, had a bad season by his standards and then got a monster contract as a UFA.

I'd say he is an elite slot receiver after the production hes had the past few seasons. But yeah not an elite receiver overall. But still pretty close

Cruz's value is that not only is he an elite slot guy, he can step outside and still produce at a high level. He's not a slot-exclusive guy like Wes Welker.
