Warning, ESPN material inside.

The guy's got a month, I don't even think he's got a month in the big leagues. Just comparing him to this and that, and saying he's going to make the All-Star team, that's a joke to me.

Buster Olney pointed out this morning that Puig has logged 213 innings so far in 2013. Papelbon hasn't logged more than 70 innings in any season of his career to date. You can argue that a closer does have a place on the All Star team, sure.

The old fogies on MLB Network, Billy Ripken and Mitch Williams, sided with Papelbon, too. They're argument? There are older guys in the league than Puig. Well, no shite. The guy's like 14 and is better than cream of the crop in the NL outfield so far.

Puig is hitting .443/.473/.745/1.218/237 with 6 2B, 1 3B, 8 HR and 17 RBI in 112 PA's. K/BB is bad at 22/4.

The leading OF vote getters in the NL are:

Carlos Beltran .307/.346/.545/.891/143 19 HR and 50 RBI.

Carlos Gonzalez .292/.359/.596/.956/142 22 HR and 60 RBI.

Justin Upton .252/.362/.458/.820/123 15 HR and 38 RBI.

The first two are definite ins. Upton, I don't hate him being in because he's just riding fan voting from his incredible start, which is the same argument you can make for Puig being selected right now. Are there better choices for the other OF spot over Upton? Probably so, Puig being one of them. But I haven't done the research.

I guess the point is that for Papelbon to say it's a joke to him is asinine. And for the MLB Network "player/commentators" to use the "older guys" argument is just dumb. Does Puig deserve an All Star selection over those three? No. Does he deserve it at all? Absofrickinglutely.

No doubt Puig should be in. I read an article that he is asking people via instagram to vote him even though his name is not on the ballot. The article detailed his escape from Cuba and some of is obstacles and adversity. Awesome story. (he may be paying cartels percentage of his contract for getting him here)

I understand what he is saying, but I clearly disagree. I definitely hope Puig gets in, dude has been phenomenal for sure.

Do you know anything about baseball? comparing those stats is so useless. It's much harder to keep production up over a longer period of time than it is one month.

Perfect example is Justin Upton. look at his April and then look at his April - present.

Eh, I can understand what he is saying. I don't think it's a huge deal, the kid has plenty of future All-Star seasons ahead of him.

Papelbon has always been a douche.

Do you not know how to read? Because I sort of made the same argument you did in my opening post.

Look, the baseball All Star game occurs midway thru the season. Puig has been on fire for the time he's been up. He's been the most electric player in the game so far. I in no way expect him to hit over .400 by the end of the year. But to ignore what he's done is ridiculous. I'd say over 100 PA's is at least somewhat significant for All-Star game consideration, especially what Puig has done in those PA's.

Let me start off by saying that I hate baseball with everything that I have, but this guy should be an all star if he continues on his tear. I mean what's the point of having an all star game if you just put people in who have tenure in the league but with average/slightly above average stats? It just sounds like a popularity contest otherwise. Sounds like the old farts are just mad.

I don't think he should be on the allstar team. He has 8 homers. What if he doesn't hit another homer for 2 months? Rookies get off to great starts all the time. But you never truly know what you have until they at least go through the league a second time.

He has 8 HR's...in 112 PA's. Who cares if he doesn't hit another HR (besides the Dodgers)? The All Star game is midway thru the season. Don't hold that against Puig.

If the goal of the all star game is to win then he should be on te team because he's playing great ball right now.
If the goal of the all star game is to play who the fans want to see then he should be on the team.

Personally, I like Puig (have him on every fantasy team) however I don't think he should be starting an All-Star game after just a hot month. As others have said continued success is great
I think Andrew McClutchen, Carlos Gomez, Ryan Braun, Carlos Beltran, Dominic Brown, and Michael Cuddeyer all deserve nods. However, it is about getting viewers and Puig is sexier than Cuddeyer.

Do you think the "national" media would be covering him so closely if he wasn't down the street from them?

Maybe Homer Bailey should be the starting pitcher for the game too. He's the hottest pitcher in baseball!

That's one every 14 at bats. Evan Gattis is averaging a home run every 11.5 at bats. Don't act like Puig is hitting home runs at a prodigious rate. His batting average on balls in play is .513. That's an absurd rate that will come crashing down hard
