HS Scouting Report

quote:

A tireless worker, Bregman was being heavily scouted before breaking his finger fielding a ground ball early in the 2012 season. Bregman, an LSU signee, played both shortstop and catcher for his high school, though profiles long term behind the dish. He has played mainly infield throughout his career with both Team USA and in school, but many predict that his athleticism and quick release will allow him to stick behind the plate. His bat will play at either position, though positional scarcity at shortstop and catcher make him even more valuable there.

Thoughts??

Keith Osik made that move and it worked for him.

Um no would never happen. Lsu has what should be a good catcher in Chinea next year.

It's actually not a horrible idea if Ross leaves. Slide Ibarra over to SS and let Moore play 3rd

Eta: I'm more than fine with Moore or Chinea at catcher

Why?? A Catcher who can hit is more valuable than a SS who can hit.

People castying and pointing and laughing don't realize that Bregman is a catcher and a good one. This is a legit thread, but an offseason one.

The discussion worthiness of the post is valid in the offseason, only if it could help get the best players on the field in 2014.

The timing of this thread?

Eh, he didn't catch nearly as much as the media and some fans think he did.

He has the tools but would have to learn the position. If he Is the best SS we have and not the best catcher then it doesn't make sense.

I know I was just checking Bregman's HS stats to see how good he was and why he wasn't drafted higher and ran across this.

When I read the report it seemed to make sense that he more natural position is C. It also seems like he has the strength, quickness, intensity and intelligence for this extremely important position. I believe Buster POsey made the same switch in CBB

Yup! Such a move would certainly help Ibarra's draft hopes and may make Bregman a lock to be a number one overall pick. But it looks like it would only really helps LSU if signee Danny Zardon is ready to be a freshman All-American type at third.
