I hate it. You lay down enough bunts and the other team will make an error. It is the toughest defensive play in baseball.

If we played 10 games with UCLA Tigers would win 9 IMHO. They could not have been playing small ball with any other pitcher they have and kept up with us.

That pitcher throwing the high strikes, daring us to hit a homer was the difference.

BTW---if we have to play in such big parks then give us back the old bats or better yet let go to wood bats. In 4 games this weekend the best teams in college baseball managed one home run. Who wants baseball without home runs.

What the frick is the point of this shite. They won. They executed the bunts and we had 2 defensive lapses the costs us the game.

I take it you are assuming that we wouldn't have swung at letter to chin high pitches against their other pitchers?

I'm convinced they had us scouted on that....Plutko isn't wild and he knew exactly what he was doing throwing it up there with our propensity to swing through it and pop it up. He basically missed a few spots and TD Ameritrade bailed him out on all but one which he figured it would do if he missed.

West Coast style of play can be enough to get you there. It's not good enough to win titles. The championship teams have a more balanced style.

Wow, this is all pathetic, but this is what I came to read to be glad i dont freak out. Its a game, we lost, this is the third of many years at TD Ameritrade, deal with it. "Small ball" is part of the game.

Absolutely....but they can beat anybody that swings at garbage and boots the ball around on routine plays.

No. That is how Plutko pitches. He has been throwing high fastballs all year long.

Personally I like games that are not 21 to 14 and take 4 hours, that was not baseball.

That makes it even worse....we saw film of him throwing letter high consistently and still went out there swinging aggresive like we did

That is crazy though....he really doesn't seem to have the velocity to live up there....he may get rocked in the minors.

I don't think they have another pitcher that could throw strikes that high routinely without hanging them. Of course he knew what he was doing. Hershiser said early on that was UCLA's strategy. They knew it was a big park and there would be hard hit fly balls. Heck we hit the "stopper of the year" when they put him in.

As far as the errors go--any team would be darn lucky to field that many bunts without an error. Bregman's error was just unfortunate.

Quite the opposite. The pitch looks good to a hitter because hitters like high pitches and are taught to jump on high mistakes. He puts them just high enough that it is hard for the hitters to get their hands on top of the ball. The mistake pitch he made to Katz was a fastball that he got "down" around the waist.

We swung at a lot of them that I don't believe would have been called strikes.

I'm not really going to call out Ross on his error...although it was a play he should make...it was a tough get on that ball for sure and a tough angle on the throw.

The Bregman error was completely unforgiveable....without a doubt.

4 hr game loaded with hits is better than 3hr 15 minute game loaded with no offense and pick off attempts.
