Like KR said a .22 is your best bet. Revolvers will give you the option for rat shot.

Man get a 45LC Single Action Army 4/34 inch. Don't have to go colt because that is a $ 2000 gun, Go Uberti or some Italian or maybe even Ruger. You shoot CCI snake shot which is a butt load of 9s Or 8s and it isn't loud enough to have to have ears on. Plus you can shoot lead for bigger critters like Armadillos. Have one in a holster by the front door loaded , love that handy revolver. Also carry it deer hunting for snakes and skunks at camp.
