Be cool if he won with the same equipment that is sold to us common folks. Also, hitting the irons with stocked shafts and grips

honestly, what is the big deal? People drop 65's with off the rack clubs every day.

They checked all the specs just like they would on a tour van

The main difference between tour equipment and off the rack is simply the consistency in the equipment as far as weight, milling, etc.

It's not some magical club that's completely different

The variance in swingweight and frequency in some off the rack stuff is a lot bigger than you'd believe. Hence, KJ testing different irons, and some varying from D2-D4 in the same set

Aren't the lofts jacked up, etc. ?

No way someone could hit a normal wedge 170 or whatever like some long hitting pros with a club off the rack from a golf shop right?

My question is why did he do this? Did he forget his clubs and was in a pinch since they don't allow equipment vans on site at the Memorial? Even so, he could've just called up any company and given them his specs, and they could've overnighted a set to him.

This. I'm most likely below avg at golf. But hell if I don't hit hellacious shots. I hit my 8-PW so high it defies logic. And i don't mean miss hitting the ball. When I hit an 8 iron flush it gets lost in the clouds. My buddy built me a driver with 8 degree loft and I hit it pretty much the same as people I play with who use 10.5. I'm 6'5'' and lengthy so maybe that's why...but shite are my lofts messed up?

There is a guy I know in Lafayette that collects tour used equipment

The difference between those clubs and off the rack are night and day

I've wondered how long golfers (pros) usually use a set of clubs for? The weird part for me would be jumping in a pro tournament with clubs I've only played a couple of tournaments with. I guess they are really used to tinkering with clubs and having new ones that it doesn't make any difference to them.

Clubs received are so close to the same you cant tell the difference. Lets say nike for example, at the start of the year tiger gets a new set of irons. Nike will make say 10 sets 100% exactly the same down to the gram. Tiger will look over all of them, hit them and take 3-4 sets with him for the year.

You serious, Clark?

There's just a slight difference from dropping a 65 at your local goat ranch and dropping a 65 on a course set up for a PGA tour event following all of the rules.
