According to Braden Gall he is:

Derek Ponamsky ?@DerekPonamsky 17 May
@BradenGall @MEM_Blouinite People have used that arguement since 2007. Whatever. Who do you think is elite?

Braden Gall ?@BradenGall 18 May
@DerekPonamsky @MEM_Blouinite Sorry for delay. Saban, Meyer, Kelly, Petrino, Peterson, Patterson, Stoops, Golden, Fitz, Sumlin, Briles, etc

I get that some people think Les Miles is not a great coach, but Al Golden elite, come on.

He is about as elite as Eugene Chizik.

The guy is doing a great job at Miami considering all the baggage he's had to deal with, but I wouldn't call him elite.

Someone obviously thinks too much of Galls opinion.

Meh. The NCAA holding Shapiro over their heads fricked him. However he's also in the most fertile recruiting area in the conference, walked into a decently talented team, is coaching against nothing special in that conference, and he hasn't done anything better than average yet.

As far as recruiting, I can imagine the damage control he has to do with other recruiters lying or exaggerating about Miami.

No one gives miles credit as an elite coach because he's goofy. I guarantee if he was a dick like Saban, he'd be taken more seriously.

.
If he threw his hat in rage on the sidelines and screamed like a maniac he would probably get more respect

I"m fine with Stoops being on there, but what I find funny, is people will use the BCS CG as their trump card against Miles.

With Sumlin and Briles, I like them both but I don't think you can say their are elite yet, they just haven't accomplished enough.

I agree with this. Sumlin and Briles might get there, but not just yet.

I think Golden's pretty damn good. He doesn't have much of a chance right now.

Miles is better than everyone on that list except Saban and Urban

I think he's good, I just don't see how you can call him elite. As far as not having a chance, I think Penn State last year had a lot more going against them than Miami and O Brien did better than Golden has in either of his seasons.

He's been very average in a weak conference with a program that will always have talent. Meh.
