don't get me wrong it was a good movie and I enjoyed it. I personally would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. it was the second best acted movie (for overall cast) of 2012 ... (#1 being The Master).
however this damn thing is turning into the Justin Bieber of film lately. it seems like every time I turn around some frat boy or teenage girl is talking about how incredible it is. good film, but enough is enough.

I agree. It was entertaining, but it wasn't earth shattering like I was led to believe. My brother, for example, was going on about how it was one of the best movies he has seen in some time.
I mean, good looking mentally unstable guy gets hooked up with good looking mentally unstable girl and the hilarity ensues. Oh, and Robert DeNiro gambles on the Eagles. Entertaining? Absolutely (just look at the characters at play). Sticks with you? I forgot that I had scene it until I saw this thread.

you know I felt like this was one of the more overrated De Niro performances of his career. he did a good job, but the only award nomination worthy part of his performance was him crying by the bed with Cooper for about 20 seconds. the rest of it was just him screaming and yelling at either the television or Cooper.
the other three main actors in the film put on better performances than De Niro in my opinion..... which I can't believe I'm saying.

I think what ruined me on it was all the hype. If I had watched it without hearing the hype or knowing anything about it, I would have liked it better. Most of my favorite movies are the ones I knew nothing about going in. But still, it's a solid flick but its not nearly as good as people think.

it also doesn't help that the director, you know this guy -
is one of the biggest pieces of shite douchebags in the business. the cast and crew who broke up the fight between him and George Clooney back in 1999 on the set of Three Kings should have let Clooney stomp his arse out

Cooper's character was annoying as frick. It was a solid movie, but if I were ignorant of the hype, I would have never suspected it to be an Oscar hopeful.

Liked it enough to finish it. It didn't resonate with me at all. On this board, people compared it with 500 Days of Summer.. Which got me interested to see it. But 500Days is such a good movie to me because of how relatable it is. Silver Linings didn't hit home with me which is why I just found it okay.

I did not read the hype about I rented it with my ladyfriend going in thinking it was gonna be a chick flick. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just my .02. LL never saw or read that 500 movie you are talking about.

Solid movie. Entertaining to watch. Not necessarily earth-shattering.
Prefer J. Lawrence in Hunger Games and B. Cooper in The Words, personally.

I liked it. It reminded me of a Woody Allen film the way everyone was so neurotic. It was funny to me in that way, but I know a lot of people don't like that kind of comedy.
I thought it was interesting how they (or maybe it was solely Russell's decision) didn't build the suspense during the announcement of the scores in the dance competition. I may be wrong, but I thought of that as a subtle nod to the viewer, not taking that easy opportunity to play with your emotions. A sort of anti-American Idol move, if you will.
