It was a great movie...I don't think I've ever heard an audience collectively gasp like they did during the scene after Ellis goes off on Mud.

There's some cursing and a little bit of violence but nothing gratuitous.

Great movie. A little slow, but the performances more than made up for that. I will definitely purchase when it comes out on Blu Ray.

Also,

Unless you want your 11 year old imitating another 11 year old who cusses every other sentence, I'd avoid it with kids. I didn't have a problem with it personally, but I'd be afraid my kid would go to school, get a question wrong, and yell, "SON OF A BEEEEEETCH!" (Neckbone)

Cussing and one kind of long violent scent. This one kid says shite a lot and there are a couple gd's. there are some deep underlying themes that an 10 year old probably won't get. The main kids are 14, one of ems talks about tits and arse a good bit. One of ems uncle talks about gettin your top wet doubt they would get that though.

Just trying to think of everything to help you decide.

Going tomorrow to see it.
If 98 out of 100 critics like it, then I'm in.
Can't wait.

I'll check it out, never heard of it.

I'm hoping it's better than Take Shelter. That movie left me wanting more, might've had too high of expectations though.

i think it is. i felt the same about Take Shelter, and also Shotgun Stories. kept hearing alot of hype (especially here since hes a hometown success story), but never really dug either of them. but i think Mud is pretty excellent. its methodical, like the other two, but with better characters and payoffs imo.

Finally caught it yesterday and I really liked it. The acting was great, especially the kids, and it really felt authentic. The cinematography was really great too. I also love Take Shelter so I'm definitely interested to see why Nicholls does next. My only problem was the use of Michael Shannon. I'm not sure what his purpose was. Seems like the director just wanted to put him in the movie.

Took the mom to see Mud today and it was well worth my time. Both of us really enjoyed it.

MM was good but the young boy actors stole the show, especially the Ellis character. I loved the underlying themes and many of the father-son convos hit home with me. Great acting and the themes are as impactful and relatable as they come.
