From a pure defensive standpoint, I would take last year over this year.

This year? That's debatable. But by then end of their careers, you could be looking at the best three infielders at their position in LSU history.

ETA: It sucks that this is the only year this combo will be together. We'll have a new right side of the infield next year.

Well considering Aaron Hill >>>>>> JaCoCo and Ibarra will only be here one year, I'm not sure that's an accurate assessment.

I'm not looking at them as a combo.

Jacoby was here 3 years. Hill was a shortstop.

I would've said yes before Jones lost the popup in the sun yesterday.

I know you're not.

Jones will not go down as the best LSU 2B of all time (Todd Walker)

Ibarra will not go down as the best LSU 3B of all time. (Blair Barbier)

Defensively?

This is what you said:

And if we are going strictly off defense, I would take Nola over Bregman.

denotes defense pal.

And I would take Nola over Bregman right now too. But Breggs still has two years to develop. Which takes me back to by the end of their LSU careers.

ETA: not to mention, that's the topic of this thread.

Defensively Nola over Bregman

People forget how fantastic Nola was; by his senior year we were all spoiled by his consistency. We expected him to make impossible plays, and he did routinely. Like Kyle Peterson said yesterday: LSU had 4 years with Nola and now they get 3 years with Bregman.

I don't recall thinking of nola as flashy and spectacular like some of the great shortstops lsu has had. I remember nola being very solid and very consistent.

bregman has made some incredible plays that I don't know if nola could have made.

as for the op, I remember several times lsu having a really great 2 player combo but, I can't recall being better at the 3 positions.

Nola made a ton of spectacular plays last year.

Any play Bregman has made this year, Nola could have made look easier.

Bregman is a much better hitter thus, better overall player, but Nola is much better defensively.

Hollander - Nola - LeMahieu

That was a superb defensive infield

I think I would give the nod to this season. I think they're slightly better.

I think bregman is a bit more dynamic than nola. jones is a year older and Ibarra is pretty darn good even though hanover is one of my favorite tigers from his time with the team.

Probably not. Not everything that happens now is the best ever. No need for hyperbole about everything.

they were darn good. as far as the comparison, lemahieu wasn't a natural 2b, correct? Hollander was one of my favorite tigers but, at the plate. i'm not sure if he was better than Ibarra is defensively.
