Scifi horror films really intrigue me.

The thought of an Alien organism capable of hiding itself in humans is very creepy to me.

I personally like the "The thing" better

Both movies are two of my all time favorites however I will say that the idea in Alien of having a parasitic organism explode out of a human's chest was a very novel idea at the time.

These are probably my two favorite sci-fi movies (I guess they could also be categorized as horror, especially The Thing). Tough call, I probably have to go with The Thing.

"horror" films coming out now can't hold a fricking candle to those two flicks

I'm all for Alien, but both are great.

Best part about that chest burst scene is that none of them knew wtf was going on. It was real terror.

I'll take Alien. Didn't see it until I was a teen.

The Thing fricked me up as a kid. To this day I won't watch it.

def Alien. to be its the quintessential sci-fi horror film.

stranded in the emptiness of space with only ripley and the alien. great horror/sci-fi movie.

I remember seeing Alien in the theater when it came out. My father took me and my sister to see it. I remember how people talked about how terrifying it was at the time.

I thought about that, and Antarctica isn't any more promising.

Both were groundbreaking movies. Both are among the very best of their genre. Both obviously have very highly respected directors. I'll go with "The Thing", thought that movie was pretty brilliant. One of the coolest movie sets I remember.

I'd like to add Invasion of the Body Snatchers for your consideration.

But yeah both are classics that I never tire of watching.

this is true.

something still more settling for me about at least being on the planet.

being stranded out in the middle of the galaxy with nothing else for hundreds of millions of miles but an acid for blood xenomorph is pretty shitty.

The Thing. I'd say it was a tough call to make it seem like I'm a film aficionado but alas the truth will have to do. But if we were talking The Thing vs Aliens then that's a completely different thread and a cross genre duel to the death.

None of the actors knew about the walking head scene in The Thing either. The "you gotta be f'n kidding me" line was an honest reaction.

I agree.

Both are great films but from the moment that Ripley realizes that she's all alone with everybody else dead and it's just her and the alien on a big flying coffin out in space, the tension just gets kicked to a whole other level.

Oh, let's make it even worse. You've set the self destruct and now the alien is blocking your only path to the escape pod.

Props to Jones the Cat, though. He went eyeball to eyeball with the alien and lived.

Very underrated badass.
