I liked 8, but didn't like the draw magic system. Every time I play it I'll spend 15 minutes fighting one pansy arse enemy just so I can stock 100 of every spell.

Yeah they do away with mp. Your summons have hp and if that hits zero you can't use it until you revive them with special pet phoenix downs. Tutorials in the SeeD classrooms should help explain it all.
ETA - Game gets super easy when you can junction status magics to your attacks. Junction 100 sleeps to your weapon and never worry about getting attacked by most enemies.

i learned an ability with shiva that lets you convert items into magic. got something that converts to 20 waters, so i just converted 5 and now squall has 100 water attached to his strength. im guessing that's what can make it easy

I couldn't finish 8 because of the draw system too but for different reasons.

Yes, and once you get the Pandemonium card from Raijin or Fujinn (I forgot which), card mod it, get 100 windmills, mod the windmills for tornados. 100 tornados on Str-J owns for most of the game.

yeah it seems pretty fun. i still have the beginner card deck and got fricking pwnd though Im still at the beginning. farmed those fish outside of the seed school to get to level 12 and leveled up shiva, quaedfjgkndsfg, and ifrit. got some badass abilities

Ifrit has a STR+ ability in addition to the Str-J where everytime you level up your Str goes up an addtional point. That will make somebody hit for 9999 every time relatively quick. I think you have to learn the Str+20%, Str+40%, etc first though.

Be careful which items you convert as some can be used to upgrade weapons etc. But like I was saying it is just my personality I guess, I will go and get 100 for every new magic I come across.
I also don't like the boost system on summons. It gets old smashing down buttons for every summon

I have been stuck for months at the same spot at the end of disk 2 with cloud dead, huge boss coming up, no phoenix downs, and no revive materia 
I fire it up once every few weeks just to see if I can do anything... nope.

There is really no big secret to beating him. Just pound away with your best attacks and have a designated dealer. Don't attack his two spawns, they just keep coming back.
When he transforms Helletic Hojo, you can just target his main body or knock off his arms if you think the fight will last a while.
