And not Jenkins? Jenkins is the more useless of the two to me by a mile.

Move Jenkins back to CB and put Varaco in his place.

Then why sign Keenan Lewis? And how does this stop the problem with Harper?

Hardly.

They are both pretty useless in their own way.

IAQ at FS. Vaccaro at SS. Jenkins at CB. Harper in Siberia.

Harper still has value to this team on running downs. Now they can sit his arse on the bench in obvious passing situations and at the end of close games.

Roman can run stuff and blitz, that would be great if he was an OLB. Malcolm can at least perform(not saying done perfectly or even near perfect) safety functions.

Vaccaro, as mentioned in a few threads, covered the slot often and was effect as such. By all accounts, great at flipping his hips and redirecting in tight space.Do you want Roman covering TG or Vernon Davis again?

I'm not saying Malcolm is safe. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if by the end of the year IAQ and Vaccaro are our safeties.

I wish he could play both so they don't

jenkins is more useless of the two but harper will cost us a ton of money the next 2 years. he has also hit the dreaded "30" mark and that's when most replacements are found right?

I wish we could just uproot both tbh

Roman cost too much and thats probably the only reason he's not getting the axe this offseason. But they've both been pretty terrible in coverage so an upgrade at either is welcomed.

I think both Harper and Jenkins have been playing slightly out of position.. but I think it's more likely that we see Harper move to OLB. I think he could be really productive there if he's able to put on about another 25 lbs or so. We now have a ball hawking guy back there, who has really good instincts from what I've seen and heard.

The more DB's the merrier. I don't care what sort of label you put on them. I think we all agree that Jenkins is a better corner, hopefully he will see more time there.

Paying a situational player 5.25 million is dumb. I don't see any reason to hold on to him now.

This is not Madden. It is a pretty hard for a player to just move positions and be successful. Putting on 25 pounds in an offseason and being asked to compete at a position players have been playing all their career is a whole lot to ask!

This is exactly what I'm thinking.

IAQ has proved to be an upgrade over Jenkins. Obviously Vacarro hasn't played a down in the NFL yet, but out of the two, IAQ seems to be the better ball hawk, and Vaccaro seems to be the better downhill run stopper. Only seems right that IAQ at FS, and Vaccaro at SS.

According to Spotrac.com here are his 2013 salary numbers.

2013 Salary Figures
Base - 5,250,000
Signing Bonus - 1,750,000
Workout Bonus - 100,000
Total Cap Hit - 7,100,000
Dead Money - 6,100,000

Harper's 6.1 million in dead money makes him uncuttable. We would only save 1 million.

It would be wonderful to have two starting safeties that can cover. My thinking, with Ryan's pressure scheme, Vaccaro will be a roaming cover man and IAQ would be the lone safety over the top. IAQ has the speed and the instincts to do it.
