What videos should I watch?

What websites should I read?

What other items should I buy?

I have the same maverick thermometer that woody linked. i highly recommend it. and amazingribs.com is a great resource for general tips and recipes for BBQ. he also does some good product reviews.

I like virtual bullet for the WSM specific information but amazingribs is a go-to website for me as well.

Thanks everyone for the links/suggestions/etc.

I'll be getting one of those thermometers. Guy selling me his smoker recommended that same thermometer too.

This....you can use his techniques. Also the Virtual Bullet like everyone suggested. Great stuff on that website.

You will love it....I've got the Maverick as well and the thing is awesome!

Debating on what to smoke this weekend. Probably going to try a brisket.

Also....what size are you getting? And where did you find it. I got mine off of Craigslist, only used maybe 4 times and got it for $170.

Craigslist. Paying $140. It's pretty old (2005) but looks like he kept it in pristine condition. Claims he owns 4 and is thinning the herd.

ETA: 18.5"

You will love it....still a good price. And it is already seasoned for you.

Only other thing I could tell you is to read up on The Minion method. That is what I use to start it and it is awesome. I also don't put any water in the water pan, but instead just wrap it in foil. This is the Harry Soo method....you may have seen him on BBQ Pitmasters.

I think your earlier thread convinced me also.

ETA: Is that the WSM in LaPlace listed on craigslist? He has a few more listed on their and wondering if it is the same guy.

I just ordered mine off of Amazon. None on Craigslist here and I couldn't find one in stock anywhere local.

Looks like I'll be smoking next weekend.

Anyone use one of the automatic temperature controllers?

I smoked four racks of baby backs on my 24" WSM yesterday for the NFL draft. My WSM along with my Digi Q WiFi controller performed flawlessly. I also did a big pan of Dutch Wicked Beans. Smoked with a combination of B&B Hickory Lump & Cherry, and Jack Daniels chunks.

I'm just saying, I've taken terrible care of mine and its gotten a ton of use and its perfectly fine. I'm talking like, outside, uncovered, in the salt-heavy air of south Louisiana and the desert-like heat of Houston, continually for five (eta: seven christ I'm old fml) years. This thing has been rained on for years and the only thing that has a spec of rust on it is the $12 charcoal grate (that I replaced). These things are like the cast iron skillets of smokers. I really mean that, like I think I could hand it down to my kid in 40 years and it would probably be fine. Indestructible.

I've had my kettle for 8 years and have never covered it or tried to take care of it. I fully expect to get at least 8 more years out of it.
