Let me start by saying I think the Willie Mays catch is the most overrated play in baseball. Jim Edmonds made multiple catches in his career that were better than the WM catch.

But this is spectacular.

And before you say WM spun and threw somebody out...so did this guy.

Part if the greatness of mays's catch was the scenario, but it is still unreal.

The difficulty of the catch is underrated on here IMO.

Was watching the game last night when he did that, I thought the Reds had run, never thought it would be a double play.

Absolutely true.

Most underrated defensive CF I have ever seen. He has quite the highlight reel.

TEN TIMES better? Really? TEN TIMES??

We live in a world of ridiculously dumb hyperbole.

I was watching it live when it happened. I couldn't believe he caught that ball. It was tailing away from him, too.

Then he doubled up Bruce at first base. Incredible play.

Bob Feller has always said that Mays catch was nothing great.

What makes Mays' catch so great is the fact that he was playing shallow center field and the ball was hit over 420 feet to the warning track and Mays made the catch on the dead run.

WM would have caught that ball standing under it. Jim made an amazing catch because he is slower

Mays' catch had more to do with the distance he traveled than the catch itself.

Because Jim Edmonds never made a catch as good as the one Willie Mays made.

And Edmonds was great at slowing down to make a catch look better than it was. Hollywood at its finest.
