9mm if you want affordable ammo.
That will bounce off a windshield.

I need to do some research onathe apex trigger. Thats something I can do myself right?
Flashlight on the gun is a nono right?
Someone said it would help incase of emergency.

So I have finally settled on a Smith and Wesson M&P for my first hand gun
Great choice!

With a small punch set, yes. They have step-by-step videos online.

I see it as much better than a handheld one because you can keep both hands on the gun. I would suggest a TLR-1s for a light and a TLR-2s for a light/laser combo.

Are there lights that are pressure sensitive to the grip? Like one that I could turn on and off without moving my hands?
Would be nice to not have a big light on when going down the stairs. Just havw it come on when I need it

Streamlights are actuated by your trigger finger pushing down and Surefire lights are actuated by pushing a button forward with your trigger finger. And both have a strobe feature.
They make lasers that are actuated by pressure, but not sure if they make lights that operate the same way.

Light on a handgun -- "Hey, Mr. intruder, I'm right here."

I agree that the light shouldn't be on until you think you have a target in front of you.
But if you've never tried to look directly into a 300 lumen light when your eyes are fully dilated, you don't realize how insanely blinding it is. It is even more disorienting if it strobes. I think a light is very effective when used properly.

Excellent point. That is why I have a 3800 lumen light within reach of my bed. That bitch hurts, and the strobe will make you realize why they use strobes to induce seizures.

so you would recommend streamlight?

For sure. They are just as waterproof as the Surefires and cost less. They also have better light spill and not just a single "hotspot" like the Surefire lights. While Surefires are still very good, I think the Streamlights are a better value.
I love mine and it sits on my HD gun.

Winchester Ranger, Fed HST, Speer Gold Dot, Remington Golden Saber
124 grain or bigger
Don't buy hydrashok
Don't buy 115 gr Hornady unless you can't get anything else.
Buy it then back order 3 more mags

Pictured are Hornady XTP but now I have a different combo of JHPs in my different guns:
Remington Golden Saber
Speer Gold Dot
Federal HST
Hornady Critical Duty
Winchester PDX1
Federal Hydrashok (I don't know why Uway doesn't like them^)

Unless you live in a backwards state, they are legal. They are also the best for self defense. If you have time to watch this (I know it's long), or if you want to skip to the proper section of the video, I explain why they are ideal for self defense:
Hollow points

Just don't use any type of FMJ. But the list I posted up there^ is what I trust my guns to be loaded with so that would be a good place to start.

Great choice of handgun. Order the apex duty Cary kit, ram kit, and aluminum trigger. You'll get a good laugh when people try your gun. It's awesome and you can do it yourself.

i am going to buy the gun before i order all that stuff.... because i dont even know what half of that is
Posted on 4/16/13 at 6:26 pm to Wooly
It's all tiny metal pieces with a whole through them and a bunch of springs. Without the videos I couldn't in good faith tell you to buy those three things but with the videos buy them... They're awesome.
Eta: sorry if that came across a little pushy. Just tryin to help. They will vastly improve your accuracy with the gun.
