Finally, the QBs are not insulated in spring practice from taking hits. This should help them develop toughness and a mental clock to getting the ball out of their hands quickly. I'm guessing this change was instituted by Cam Cameron. Mett is still in a green jersey.

(Sorry if already discussed.)

quote:

Not going green In keeping with a practice from recent spring workouts, Miles left the backup quarterbacks in white jerseys for the scrimmage. Quarterbacks generally wear a green jersey, signifying no contact. After taking a shot Saturday from Alexander, Miles said Jennings exhibited some toughness by brushing the hit off and moving on to the next play. “I don’t mind that,” Miles said Jennings told Alexander. “Bring it again.” Miles said Mettenberger remained in a green jersey.

Although we have not had a qb for years, I think Mett & the LSU offense will be a surprise this year.

The risk of injury is apparently acceptable when you remember the fumble fest that occurred every time Mett got breathed on last season. Guy needs to learn how to move in the pocket and protect the ball. Insulating him from conditions that will help him improve those skills isn't a good idea.

Contact doesn't mean full contact. I doubt any of the defenders are going to tee off on their own QB.

I'm not saying I'm against it at all, just being devils advocate.

I hope it helps Mett's pocket awareness

Mett has been in a green "no contact" jersey for spring practice, as well as last Saturday's scrimmage.

I have no problem letting QBs get hit in practice as long as the defense is disciplined enough not to take kill shots on them.

That's why it's only the backups in white jerseys.

Les Miles is clearly trying to sabotage Mett so Jennings can play early.

He wants Mett to get hurt so he can promote a running QB. Genius!

Jennings needs to get hit by college players now before he gets baptized by fire in an SEC game by some mammoth LB.

BTW, Jennings is the truth. We are in good hands with that kid.

Makes perfect sense to anyone with a brain...you have got to find out who can take a hit...otherwise, forget about being "the" back-up...they are obviously impressed with Jennings' up-side and toughness...and Les has probably told the other QBs that toughness is a requirement to play in the SEC...no sense in spending quality time with a guy who doesn't have what it takes...perfect sense!

Mett took plenty of shots straight to his face behind our inconsistent Oline last year and got back up. Id say hes earned that green Jersey, and i think that may be the motivation behind all this

And for the Auburn game last season. Or at least he thought he was.
