And when you watch how the mighty have fallen over time and then you remember way back when and Penn State was the beast of the East, ND, was the national team, Miami was revolutionary, USC was in the Rose every year, and Oklahoma and Texas fought it out for SW supremacy.

People take what we have today for granted.

can you really fault them for thinking miles is a goofball and that talent might be more responsible for the wins? understandible. there is one sure way to change things, begin making excellent decisions in games and manage the clock and put in the best players....having to convert 5 4th downs to beat florida isnt good ooaching, its reacting.

LSU fan base? Easily 80%, and there's a good chance it's over 90%.

Internet message board posters? Maybe 50%, maybe not. You gotta remember the rule of thumb in internet message board communications: the stupider the opinion, the more often it gets posted.

Basically, it boils down to this: the LSU people who don't like Miles are simply the type of people who want to bitch and complain; and those types of people also happen to be more likely to be the type of people who will post their bitching 1,000 times a day if necessary to "convince" the internet that they are right.

Volume doesn't equal representation. The vast majority of LSU fans make up less than 1% of the posts on the Rant.

You are on some serious shite bro. I would say about 70% of the people I know that are LSU fans bitch about wanting miles gone. If anything this board likes him more than I see in the real world.

PS I love Miles

Not me!!

I suffered though the dark, crazy days of LSU football and I'm riding this current high for all I can get out of it.

I'll leave the complaining bout this and whining bout that to others.

I'm a very happy camper.

The disappointments of the 09 Miss game or the 2010 Tenn. game or the last BCSCG don't blind me to the overall elite success of LSU football for the past decade. Something I've NEVER had following LSU football in my lifetime.

No one outside of certain deluded dolts on this board believes that Miles is some elite coaching genius.

That being said, he is still ranked too low on the Athlon list.

Outside of Saban, list the "elite" coaches.

Miles isn't a genius, he isn't elite; but he has performed better than most of his peers, and yes 7th. on the Athlon list is a complete joke.

Les Miles is a good coach with some obvious weaknesses.
He is also a very good person and recruiter in a very rich environment for recuits.
His warm personality is a perfect foil for Saban, so that helps, too, in a weird way.
However, as with Richt, it's easy to succumb to the conventional wisdom and conclude he underachieves.

Who would u bring in here? Obviously the 7th ranked coach in their own conference is not worthy of running the LSU program.
We are waiting, who is your pick?

He's not 7th, but he's not 2nd, either.

He's not elite, and his own debacles prove that. What hurts him is not W/L records, recruiting finishes, or whether recruits like him- but his own very public and visible persona. His visual is not good and that's probably what this guy is basing his rating on. That's subjective and probably not entirely fair, but not much in life is.

Other than " He's not elite," I would agree with all of this.
____________________________________________________
He will have this same persona 10 years from now. But what will be realized by then is that he is a very good HC and one that knows how to win in the best league in America with the toughest schedule yr in and yr out. He is 85-21 going into his 9th year. Its all luck he is so stupid. A stupid coach comes in behind Saban, where the bar is set very high and stays 9 yrs? Hum ...... really.
For a guy in Atlanta, u more than anyone should understand this.
Just 2 years ago at 0-2 Mark Richt's seat was the hottest in America. All he does after that is go to two consecutive SEC championships. Mark Richt is an outstanding coach and one heck of a good man. Georgia is very lucky to have him and made a very wise decision to keep him. Richt is a character guy and a very special HC, but Miles is the most special of them all. How else do u explain him turning down his dream job at Michigan? U know that place in Ann Arbor where he wouldve gotten a bigger paycheck and win 8 games a year asleep. U know, his Alma Mata.
Leslie turns it down so he can stay in this pressure cooker even during recruiting season and listen to people question his intelligence and coaching abilities every freakin day.
U think Saban or Kelly does this? We know Meyer and the other Kelly wouldnt.

Its one thing for the average fan to believe Miles is a goofball, but for someone who makes a living in college football to write this is just ignorant. 7th in the conference? Wow!
There is a whole lot more to running a big time program like LSU than game day mgt. A whole lot more.
Real football people should understand this.
So here it is:
Saban is a liar, Richt is too nice, Miles cant manage a live game and Spurrier cant win a big game...
Fire them all and go hire the Urban Meyer's, Bobby Petrino's and Gene Chizik's of the world.

Add to it that Richt coaches in the watered down east. Miles is a better coach than Richt.

Who cares as long as he has an "elite" record of success?

You mean that of a non-jerk, fun guy who is not ate up with himself and who just wins and wins and wins for whatever the reason?

Since 05 Coach has more wins than any other BCS school while playing in the best division of the best conference in all of college football.

Talk bout some not being able to see the forest for the trees.

Let go of what he's not and enjoy what he is...the very most successful coach LSU has ever had and one of the very most successful coaches in the game today.....for whatever the reason.

Being the best technical coach may not be the best fit at LSU. I can understand the low rating is all. They see boneheaded decisions constantly and have a right to their opinion. If i had to pick the next coach, JT Curtis harahan

Even if we could not fault them for that, could we not totally fault them for being unaware that the talent level is half (or more) of a college football coach's job?

If Saban is so head and shoulders better than Miles at gameplanning, development, game management, etc., etc., and yet only has a 4-3 edge on Miles, than Miles must be kicking the absolute shite out of Saban on the recruiting trail to have such vastly superior talent that the coaching machine Saban can barely keep ahead of the clueless, bumbling idiot Miles.
