Attempted to Read ASOIAF, Should I Watch the Show?

*SPOILERS*

I attempted to read ASOIAF and made it to the part where the climber kid gets thrown out of the window by some dude banging his sister or something along those lines. The English in this book is nearly unbearable. When I have to struggle out a book in order to feel cultured or read, no thanks I'm out of college I don't need that validation anymore. Has anyone not liked the books but enjoyed the show?

Just watch the show. He'll take 4 pages to explain a room. shite gets old. Also, the world is so large. It's hard to keep up.

I found it to be an incredibly easy read. I've read much denser writing. GRRM's style is rather straight forward. Sure, it's no See Spot Run, but it's also no Faulkner,

Clown College doesn't count. How many years of formal education did you complete before getting your GED?

I apologize if I am making too many assumptions about your education. You may not have gotten the GED.

He tried that book. Kept looking up to try to see Spot and never finished that page.

It's not dense writing? You have to be kidding me. It's written in some hybrid Old English fantasy style that is intentionally hard to read. I would rather read Tolstoy than this which is saying a lot.

It's not dense at all. It's fairly simple. I would expect a sophomore in high school to have no problem with it. Sorry you struggled with it.

Are you confusing Tolstoy with Toy Story?

You need to stop and go back and delete all your posts in this thread because you really should be embarrassed.

Ah yes, 19th century Russian literature is certainly a treat. Do you prefer the Constance Garnett or Pevear-Volokhonsky translations?

Not dense writing at all. I had more trouble with LOTR than I did with ASOIAF, but that was in the 7th grade. I find ASOIAF to be very easy to read and its not really written in an "old english hybrid fantasy type language".
