Diocese of Lafayette Morality Clause

Glad to see that they expect Catholic educators to actually BE Catholic

quote:

A new morality clause that is now included in Diocese of Lafayette teachers' contracts bars teachers from being gay, using birth control or being married outside the church,

Wonder if that is coming down from the new Pope? Probably. Looks like he's hard core.

Thats their prerogative as a private institution. That being said, if i was a parent i would find "being married outside the church" a little too much. There has to be a line where actual education quality comes into play.

I'm pretty sure in most conservative catholic district you can't you can't bring your gay lover to work.

If the teachers aren't Catholic, well, too bad. Those are the rules and these are church schools.

I do have one question, do they have teachers that are not Catholic but say Southern Baptist or Greek Orthodox and they follow the rules but got married or will get married in one of those churches, are they allowing that since it is church?

I am 100% positive that "the church" means the catholic church in this context

I'm not 100% sure but I can say with a very high level of confidence that this is not coming down from Francis. The local bishop has control over local administrative matters.

Is there any concern that this could shrink the pool of good, qualified teachers from consideration? I understand that Catholic schools want, and should, promote Catholic values and beliefs, but why limit the pool of potential teachers? If the teacher does not promote homosexuality, birth control, etc. why write them off?

Thanks.

Having gone through the crap in the Presbyterian Church USA, seeing the Episcopals, UCC, ECLA, and even Methodist, it seems that the Catholics and Southern Baptist and various Orthodox are the largest standing in orthodox Nicene Christianity standards.

It is heartbreaking what has happened in those "mainline" protestant churches.

I'd be interested to see a little more clarification on this because the Catholic Church does recognize Protestant to Protestant marriages as sacramental.

As I said, beware of the old mainline protestants. I've got stories that would make you sick as they did I. Presbyterian Church of America is great but PCUSA is filled with heretics and the apostate.

One more thing. This woman needs to step down from the school board.

quote:

The new clause is not sitting well with everyone associated with Fatima. Parent Jaci Russo, the president of Our Lady of Fatima Advisory Council -- the equivalent of a school board -- said Fatima has an amazing group of educators.

"I would hate to think we would ever not renew the contract of a teacher who is an outstanding teacher because of something to do with her personal life," Russo said

She doesn't understand following Christ and Church teachings. Your personal life is no longer your personal life because you are His. He has told us that we are to die to self, pick up our cross and follow Him.

I would guess that that would be ok. I think this is more to stop teachers from having live-in bfs/gfs, divorces, etc.

Disappointing and I hope the Baton Rouge diocese doesn't follow. The church needs to be more inviting rather than exclusive..and while I can understand the gay issue(although I disagree) the non catholic push is a little much. They should be showing those that work and enjoy the church why they should join the community rather than pushing them out.

FTR.. I'm not catholic but I'm married to one and my children are and attend a catholic school. I've considered joining the church but issues such as this keep me from committing.

There might be a little jumping to conclusions concerning pushing out non catholics. I mean the article doesn't print the new morality clause so it's difficult to judge for ourselves.

Here's a great site that has breakdown of church news by Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, and various issues. Called Stand Firm in Faith.

It's the Tigerdroppings for those of us who pray for the Church catholic.
