Was the decline in his play purely due to the locker room gun incident? Injuries? Age?

The gun incident occurred in the 2009-10 season. After that, his career really went downhill. Is it just a coincidence?

Season | G | FG% | 3P% | TRB | AST | PTS
2008-09 | 2 | .261 | .286 | 4.5 | 10.0 | 13.0
2009-10 | 32 | .411 | .348 | 4.2 | 7.2 | 22.6
2010-11 | 70 |.366 | .297 | 2.7 | 3.9 | 10.8
2010-11 | 21 |.394 |.324 | 3.3 | 5.6 | 17.3
2010-11 | 49 |.344 |.275 | 2.4 | 3.2 | 8.0
2011-12 | 17 | .406 | .333 | 1.1 | 1.1 | 4.2

Good question. Today he's 31 so it can't be age. I don't know. He liked to shoot and coming off the bench was not what he liked or better yet fit his game. Some guys don't adapt too well to being the superstar then the sixth man.

People always said all he could do was shoot. That worked well in Washington. And nowhere else.

The only reason I thought of him is because Jarvaris Crittenton was indicted on those murder charges today.

He played in China this year, averaging 20 points, 7 boards, and 3 assists per game for one of the worst teams in the league.

Was it just a lack of opportunity toward the end of his NBA career? Memphis and Orlando hardly gave him any run.

Probably a combination of a guy wanting a starting spot (Iverson's ego was the same) and a guy wanting more money than what teams offered.

Considering Shavlik Randolph, Pooh Jeter, and Donnell Harvey all put up much better numbers in China for much better teams, it seems like Arenas (and T-Mac) really mailed it in when playing in China last year, unlike Marbury.

I just remember him obviously lacking a quickness he had earlier in his career.

He had 3 major knee operations in a two year span. When he came back, he lost the majority of his explosiveness.

He also came back WAY too quickly. Plus, it was reported that he did TOO much rehab, and didn't do it the right way.

Screwed up rehab = screwed up career.

April 4, 2007 - Arenas tears the lateral meniscus in his left knee in a 108-100 loss to Charlotte and has season-ending surgery.

Nov. 21, 2007 - Arenas undergoes a second surgery to repair a partial meniscus tear in the same knee - believed to be caused by overstrenuous rehabilitation from the first surgery - and is expected to miss three months of action.

April 30, 2008 - Arenas announces before Game 5 of the Wizards’ playoff series with Cleveland that he is done for the season after his knee fails to respond positively. He expects a summer of rest to cure the pain and discomfort hobbling him.

July 3, 2008 - Arenas agrees to a six-year contract from the Wizards worth $111 million. The Wizards offer the max, but Arenas “leaves $16 million on the table” to help the team.

Sept. 17, 2008 - Arenas has his surgically repaired knee operated on a third time, this time to remove lingering debris, which has caused continual pain and discomfort. He will miss all of training camp and at least the first month of the coming season.
