i think this rig personifies all the things i was talking about.
its 8 core (but a zambezi core)
has 16 gigs of ram (but 1333)
has a blu ray player
and the graphics card for this "gaming" rig? integrated HD3000 on the board.
all for the low low price of only $699 (and hey thats $150 off)
I am about to order parts this week for a build to resell. I will post my list when I am finished with it. Trying to get something I can sell for $600 and that's with a KB/M.
Sad thing is that I can't screw people like that because I have a conscious or else I am sure I could make more money off of it.

Wow.. my MBP has a HD3000.. it can't handle SC2 or D3 on medium settings.

I want to build my parents a computer. Theirs is old as shite and they obviously don't need all the bells and whistles we need.

Yea 1300/1700 is way too much... Try for 1125/1500 then go from there
My 7970 is at stock 1050/1500. I wonder how much more room I have.

My $460 laptop has hd4000 and a nvidia 630m graphics. That's ridiculous.

Find them an off lease deal or something unless you just want to build it.

My physics score is 12667: LINK
Start with that. If you beat that score, I'll start tinkering with my settings again.
I know I can break 12K.. but we will always be about 400pts from each other or 5% improvement from IB to HW. You know what, I should delid huh? hmmm

About 100-150 more on the core. The memory idk, card manufactures use a wide range of memory modules even within the exact same make and model.

Well I can tell you it won't go to 1275 on the core.

after looking around, ive ended up going with just a few "recommended" builds with optional upgrades. the recommendations are based on what game(s) the end user really wants to play, and most of the upgrades are cosmetic.
further research has me contemplating switching up some rec's based on which games are more popular.
for example: everyone here appears to be really into BF3. looking at the sys requirements for BF3, a rig could be built for it relatively cheap. I'm thinking of going with a higher level build (specifically one with a higher profit margin) as my "recommendation" for BF3 and CoD since more people are likely to buy a rig for it.
the slope into moral ambiguity is quite slippery indeed.

I have a different card than you.

Just hit 129 with little tinkering trying to figure out how to post screen shot.

I built my grandparents a computer using an A6 APU and iTX w/ a 24" LED 1080 monitor. They love it (my grandpaw does a little side business, booking).
As for their mobile devices, they need access to the internet when they travel or go out of town. So we just sold his laptop in favor of a Chromebook. We purchased the new Samsung chromebook for $249 and it does anything you want it to do. Simple, fast, lite and cheap for a really low price. So what im getting at, might want to buy a chromebook then the peripherals to hook it up. That way they have both mobile and desktop units for a really low price.

Yea, my 7950's limit is 1255 and it barely runs that. I get through the whole benchmark about 1 out of 3 runs.

You could throw in a cheap 2GB 610 or some shite and all people would see is the 2GB must be better than a 1GB 650Ti.

oh i know. i wont do it though, for one thing it looks bad on me and my current full time employer. for another, it teaches my cousin a terrible lesson.
if you want a good laugh just spend some time looking at CL ads for computers. everyone on there is either an idiot or a scam artist.
