Sequester Pre-Notice Notice UPDATE: No notice for two weeks

Today at work my supervisor called me into her office (no I do not have pics, this is not the OT).

I was read a five-paragraph script saying that I would receive an official notice no earlier than tomorrow that due to the sequester, I would be furloughed for 22 "discontinuous, intermittent days" between April 26 and September 30. Our days will be either Monday or Friday (though we can request a different day, such as to handle a need to be out of the office, with supervisor approval).

I can submit an official response if I want and can get official time to do so. Also if I need to I can contact our Employee Assistance Program if I have problems related to the furlough.

So it looks like things are "on like Donkey Kong" as they say.

I got that same notice yesterday, but then I was told there is currently a bill that is in the works which will make our entire department exempt.

I wanted the free vacation but am glad for the people who have families and really need that money.

Our guys were told they can't take a day prior to or after a federal holiday, they get you with that too?

I'd request a Friday followed by a Monday.

That way you get a 4-day weekend every other week. Win.

Our CS bubbas were told one day per pay period only. so unless the pay period ended on a Friday no can do.

We were told that it would be every Friday, starting the week of April 21st and running through the end of the fiscal year.

No, we would not be paid; but I'm in a situation where the minimal loss of income wouldn't be detrimental for me.

I don't know the specifics because the notice hasn't officially gone out and won't until tomorrow at the earliest. But I don't think we can do a Friday-Monday deal like you suggested; we'll probably have to pick one or the other and most likely it will be based on seniority (I have almost 26 years in so I'll probably get whatever day I want).

I've heard about how it can't be immediately before or after a holiday or any scheduled leave but again I don't have an official notice.

The CR I've heard about doesn't exempt any agencies totally, it will avoid a total shutdown on March 27 but still include sequester cuts.

Ours are one per week or two per pay period, but again I think it has to be a specific day (either Monday or Friday but the 4-day deal is probably a no go).

We all had to sign memorandums about our sequester/furloughs. Also, to add insult to injury, once you have reached 80 hours of LWOP you forfiet one pay period of sickleave and annual leave. Our agency has determined that we all have to forfeit 112 hours LWOP. So for 6 months I will take a 10% reduction in pay and one of those months I will have a 20% reduction in pay.

Maybe you could meet Obama on those days off and play some golf.

We will have to sign our notices beginning tomorrow.

I've heard the 80 hours LWOP rule as well.

So in my case I will have 176 hours LWOP (22 days at 8 hours/day) plus losing 4 hours sick leave and 8 hours annual leave as well. Softened only by not having to drive 48 miles to and from work on my furlough day.

Yeah I messed that up same here but absolutely not before or after a holdiday. We have flexibilty in the day a guy decides to take, simply because of the missions we do. So I have to juggle the requirements with multiple guys being gone every day of the week. We are lucky we have awesome Bubbas and we are formulating a plan for who takes tuesday as an example.

We have some flexibility too, such as if we have a doctor's appointment on a Wednesday, we can request to make that our furlough day instead if the supervisor approves. Ours are pretty flexible so most of the time a request would be approved.
