Ribs Recipe

I have heard of boiling a brisket in crawfish boil before putting it on the pit to sear or in the smoker. Has anyone ever tried doing this with ribs? Or do they just get tough?

Brining ribs is quite common so you may just want to soak them in the crawfish boil. Parboiling them is another technique used frequently, so doing it in crawfish boil should not be too extreme, and it shouldn't toughen them unless you go overboard with the boiling.

I'm only a decent rib cooker and I can make them fall off da bone if I want to without a boil. I see no reason to ever boil a rib.

Looking to boil them to get some of that crawfish boil flavor. I had a brisket done that way once, and it was awesome!

if you can grill/smoke correctly, you don't need to do it.
my dad did it once, it helps tenderize them but it's not needed. just wrap in foil and it will steam in it's own juice instead of boiling out some of the flavor in water

Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it.

Gotcha. I guess you could brush with crab boil and butter then wrap in foil and achieve the same thing. Or boil em in crab boil. They're your ribs

I don't particularly like the texture of boiled then pit-cooked ribs. If you're trying to get "crawfish boil" flavor into the ribs, why not mop the ribs with an apple cider & dilute liquid crab boil mixture every hour or so while cooking? Or, use the component flavors of crab boil in your rib rub: it is flavored with bay, clove, allspice, a hint of cinnamon, cayenne, garlic, etc.

Evoo, salt, pepper, and garlic.
I've tried a lot of different rubs but the above seems to work the best. I smoke for 3-5 hours.

When I had a gas grill I put the ribs in the oven for about 2 hours @ 225 and finished them on the grill. Boiled ribs IMO lose a lot of flavor.

If you boil ribs you might as well hang up your tongs and never BBQ again, the terrorists have won.
What happens when you boil ribs is a whole bunch of juices that were once in the ribs renders out, making a delicious broth that's just chock full of flavor that used to be in your ribs. Once that flavor comes out you cannot get it back in. Rub your ribs with crab boil for whatever god forsaken reason and smoke them. DO NOT BOIL. If you feel you need to get them more tender wrap them in foil with some apple cider vinegar and put them back on the pit or in the oven. Boiling is for chumps and places like VooDoo BBQ that can't cook a rib properly.

Didn't the op mention the boiling brisket thing on here before and got all sorts of ridicule on longhorn and aggie boards after linked from here?
