| Bird watchers wanting to see bald eagles in central LA. (Posted on 3/8/13 at 9:26 am)
FYI- I just passed the Morganza locks on LA 1, and just north of the locks is a flood plain with a couple of trees. There is an eagle nest with movement in it and another eagle was posted in the tree next to the nest. No pics because my good camera was at the house. There is a couple hundred yards between the road and the nest.

There's one in a tree off of Hoo Shoo Too too. Rode down there this morning. In a tree in a pasture across from Mallard Lakes.

I see a bird around my house on the Diversion, but don't know where the nest is located. I see the bird every week or two...

Ive passed it several times and saw them flying across the road to the woods on the west side. They've been there since the 11 flood

There are babies in it as well... I mean they're more like nearly full grown eagles at this point, but they're still full brown.

Do the chicks hatch at a certain time of year?

My mom has been taking pics of them for a while now, I think they have to be less than 3-5 months old though based on the growth rate I've seen in her pics. Not sure if that's the normal time of year for an eagle or if Mr and Mrs Eagle just forgot to wrap up on their anniversary.

This info from Birdepedia: Bald eagles usually start nesting in Feb. Eggs hatch in April or May. The young eagles leave the nest in late June or July. The young get their adult plumage and are ready to reproduce around 4 years of age. However, I think they get started early in the south.

Used to see them all the time in South Catahoula, seeing plenty up here in Richland/Morehouse too. Took this at the Catahoula/Franklin border a few weeks ago.

I think these "babies" are flying now. Saw one flying low over the road last monday. Was about the size of a red tail hawk but was kinda blotchy colored with different shades of brown. There is a nest in cat island that ive seen babies in every year during the spring floods. Its in an area I can only get to by boat and its usually around Good Friday when im in there

Had one over Centurylink on 165 last week. See them regularly in Jones at the camp.

They're as big, or bigger than their parents when they leave the nest. It's hard to judge how big a hawk/eagle is until you're right up next to it though. I've seen hawks I thought were huge until I trapped them and then realized they were small males.

Bald Eagles are abundant in Louisiana these days, pretty soon they will need to open a hunting season so we can thin out their numbers.

They are in south GA as well but haven't made it to the middle of the state yet. Tree Swallows just showed up here. Yesterday I got to watch more than a dozen flocks of more than 300 total Sandhill Cranes heading north from just south of Macon. You can hear them calling from more than a mile away and I love watching the flocks go overhead on their way back from Florida. Some of the early migrant songbirds shouldn't be too much longer.

I see them virtually every day I am on Toledo Bend, north or south. I also one on Sibley Lake in Natchitoches last week. Truly beautiful birds.

Drove back by again and the nice thing about the nest is the road is on top of the levee so you are at level with the nest...
