john medeski and marco benevento are my 2 current favorites, but to call them keyboardists is sort of silly though.

This is a tough one, since keyboards encompass a broad range of expertise. As far as rock I'd break it down by instrument.

Piano-Billy Payne
B-3-Lord
Wurly-Ian Mclagan
Rhodes-Richard Tee
Clav-Stevie
Synth-Bernie Worrell (honorable mention on clav)

The all around guy I'd choose..and it's hard, but I'd say Roger Powell. He was freak level, and recorded all-time tracks on several of the above, Emerson right there as well.

If we're including jazzers then Chick Corea by a furlong with Herbie at #2.

I don't know about best, but Tony Carey is a good one. His side project Planet P Project made some pretty cool Pink Floyd style music back in the day.

Chuck Leavell with all the Allman brother love and he is one of my favorites. Then of course he went on to play with the stones.
