I thought Gailard Sartain would have been Ideal - from My Generation.
I think Jack Black would be just-about Perfect. He showed some Range in BERNIE.

I thought they had talked about this or maybe even started putting it together and that Zack Galifinakis was the one they picked.

Although I would be interested to see Jack Black play that. He hasn't been in the spotlight in awhile.

No one wants to do it probably.

quote:

There have been repeated attempts to turn the book into a film. In 1982, Harold Ramis was to write and direct an adaptation, starring John Belushi and Richard Pryor, but Belushi's death prevented this. Later, John Candy and Chris Farley were touted for the lead, both of whom died at an early age, leading many to ascribe a curse to the role.

quote:

When asked why the film was never made, Will Ferrell has said it is a "mystery".[16] A 2007 Cracked.com article titled "The 10 Most Awesome Movies Hollywood Ever Killed"[17] had the version starring Ferrell at #1, and paraphrased him saying that "it's the movie everyone in Hollywood wants to make, but no one wants to finance".

quote:

There is currently a version in negotiation with director James Bobin and potentially starring Zach Galifianakis.

In an interview, Steven Soderbergh remarked "I think it’s cursed. I’m not prone to superstition, but that project has got bad mojo on it.

It would make sense to be cursed seeing how badly screwed the author was

Would be like God opening up the clouds and taking a giant shite on me.

One of my absolute favorite books and by far me least favorite actor. (see thread)

Way too old. So is PSH.

Back when the Farrell thing was going on, my choice was jack Black. The part of a highly intelligent slob is tailor made for him. If they made it today, they'd probably put Jonah Hill in it, and it would suck.

There's a guy who did a stage version of it in NOLA for a while and was reportedly very good.

It's one of my favorite books and I'm not a huge Zach G fan, but I could see him in the role. Of course, Ignatius isn't supposed to be entirely likable. I just can't think of anyone who would be a better fit.

If Jason Segal got super fat he would be my choice.

Screw Zack G or Jonah Hill for sure.
