Anyone familiar with Adult tonsil removal? Painful?

I need mine removed and would appreciate feedback of having them removed as an adult.

TIA

I had mine removed back in Oct. I didn't really have any pain from it and took none of the pain medicine prescribed to me.

Now the other infection that started before this surgery and put me in the ER and hospital for 3 days? That sucked, and having the tonsillectomy 5 days prior didn't help with the hospital food I was served and couldn't eat.

I had mine removed at age 35.

Lady of The Lake did robotic surgery.

Ate mashed potatoes and smoothies for two weeks and gargled with peroxide after every meal.

I had very little pain thanks to the meds (only took a half dose) and they had also said the robotic surgery would make the recovery easier.

Had mine removed. Just ate soups and ice cream for a week and was fine.

It will go about as smoothly as a newb on the RB.
But seriously can be painful and bleed quite a bit for a week or two. It does not go nearly as smoothly as it would for a child.
Interesting thing, I worked in an ER at a BR hospital when I went to LSU and Glenn Davis came in after having his removed. He had a big gulp cup with him that he proceeded to spit up coagulated blood in for a while prior to going back to surgery.

I take them out on a regular basis. For the most part hurts like hell for a couple weeks. Most adults lose about 10lbs. Worth it if you need them out though.

Had them removed when I was 22. Most miserable 2 weeks of my life after the surgery. Good luck

I was told if I had any bleeding in the first week to go straight to the emergency room

Yes, that's correct. Some minimal bleeding may be experienced immediately afterwards, but any persistent or increasing should be handled by going to the ER. That's why big baby was in the ER, he wouldn't stop.

the most likely time to bleed is about 1-1.5 weeks out from surgery--the scabs come off/dissolve.

My tonsils hurt right now. What are the benefits of removal?

surgery is never painful. they put you to sleep. then, they give you morphine so you don't feel the pain. then, they give you pain killers so you don't feel the pain.

don't get why people worry about pain for surgeries.

It benefits patients that have tonsilar abscesses, recurrent tonsillitis, sleep apnea, things of that nature. It's not a procedure you have done just because or to prevent something.

I was getting recurring infections in my tonsils about every 2 or 3 months (over the course of a year). Finally went get them checked out and only option was removal.

I would avoid smoothies like another poster recommended. The day I had mine out (I was 21) I got a giant smoothie thinking it would feel good. Took one sip and it felt like molten lava going down my throat. Too much acid in the fruit.

Everything I've heard is that it was painful, but then again now they have real good meds.
