well if you are looking to build something top of the line you are off to a great start. May as well bump the RAM up 32 or even 64

I have that same ram (8 gigs), and I love it.

I also have the gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 7850 and couldn't be more satisfied. I can only imagine what 2 7950's will do.

Get the gigabyte X79 UP4. Should jump to 2 7970s while you're at it!

I have the 3820 and single 7970 all watercooled right now. Hopefully by summer I'll have my second 7970 in the loop.

I have the same RAM except the black low profile version. It works very well when OCing the 3820.

Make sure to grab the seasonic x850 or x750, or the corsair ax850. I'd want the best psu possible to power it.

What cooler were you looking at getting?

Jeff- what is the advantage of having that much damn ram?

Blitzed- fwhat u talking bout willis?

MR G- budget is 12-1400, i will mostly be ripping blu-rays and transcoding video. maybe some audio mixing.

dont plan on doing any gaming but if i find something worth playing i want to play at 1080p+ with ultra settings and not have it break a sweat.

dcrews- do you convert any video? i was wondering how one card would handle it.

thanks again gentlemen.

whoa whoa blue, calm down bud, i been out of the loop for a minute.

im assuming the UP4 is a better video card?
ive seen reports of the 3820 overclocked to 4.7 stable with air cooling. is that accurate?

and what is this seasonic x850?

i cant look up too much out here except the mobile version of TD.com, so forgive me if i cant do my own research.

as far as water cooling i know absolutly nothing about it so whatever yall can clue me into would help tremendously

The gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 is a motherboard. Probably t. Best one under $300-350.

Seasonic x850 is an 850 watt power supply, the minimum you'll want for two 7950s is 750 watt.

Watercooling that setup will be atleast $600 more. If you have the money I'd go for it.

Try out pcpartpicker.com to help you pick out your build. It will tell you if everything is conpatible and what not and the prices

no, unless you plan on doing some crazy overclocking.

Gigabyte boards are some of the best. Asus are great too, but the UP4 is top notch.

The seasonic power supplies are the best, no ifs, ands or buts about it.

Not at all. I would recommend getting this cooler called the swiftech h220. Its not out yet, but it should be within the next few weeks. Its going to be a lot like a watercooling loop except just for the processor and a lot cheaper (around $140)

I don't do any of that but stout does and he swears by the amd 8350 CPU which would be considerably cheaper.

I would recommend a fractal but if you're talking about water cooling a processor and dual 7950s you may as well sink another 400 in a case labs case. Coyote has some competition. Lol

You don't need a case labs to watercool only a processor

Correct. You can fit a 240 in a Fractal R4.

Not to hijack but how long should it take to put together my first build? 3 or 4 hours?
