I never knew this about wild hogs

You might be able to kill a feral hog with these cartridges if it is sleeping and weighs under 40 pounds so you can hit it in the brain from less than 10 feet. However, feral boars often weigh over 300 pounds and attack like a lion. They accelerate faster than a lion in their attack and their tusks will cut two inches deep with each slash. They have a leather shield over their chest that will stop both of these bullets with zero penetration. The risk of getting killed is pretty high if you are hunting on the ground with these cartridges. A big boar hyped up on adrenalin will likely kill you after you empty your magazine in him. Some people will have a hard time maintaining accuracy when their legs and arms have been cut off. My recommendation would be to bring enough gun or hunt from a tree. FYI, I no longer hunt them with a .44 Mag. I saw the light! I've been attacked too many times.
I tell you hogs are the new dragons. Faster than the largest land predator, bullet proof and able to cut off arms and legs.

I've killed a lot of them dirty bastards with a 22. Wait, can we call hogs dirty bastards? Hope I don't get your thread whacked.

I highly doubt if you empty a 15 round 9 mil mag in a hog it'll still be able to kill you. Of course thats JMO, but I've seen a 275 crumble like wet paper with a .22 mag. I know its shot placement, but still.
6 44 mag rounds, I dont care what it is its a dead SOB.

That's why tr dinosaurs are extinct. Hogs got them.
Seriously. Has anyone here been attacked or known someone attacked. Not talking about catching them after the dogs bay them up, but just attacked by a charging hog.

Attcked? No not per se, but the first time I went hog huntin' was at night and I shot it with my AR, right behind the front shoulder, you know...the standard kill shot, but I didnt know what I was doing really, and it turned and started running at me.
I proceeded to dump about half a magazine in it, and it only stopped coming at me when one of my shots went a stray and it blew the back foot off.

Ive seen 44mag take the last shot to kill a 375lber
once and all shots where to the head at less than 25ft

My uncle and FIL were attacked by a charging feral hog. They were trying to free a fawn that was caught in a barbed wire fence. Hog probably thought they were trying to steal his dinner, but still they were not running dogs or hunting just trying to free the deer. To this day FIL will not go hog hunting.

I have never heard of anyone "attacked" that hadn't already been messing with the hogs. Usually, people misinterpret a bluff for an actual attack. The hog doesn't know what they are and tries to bluff them away. Hogs are too smart to get in easy range of something that is bigger than them.
Anyway, the point is that a lot of people feel that they have to be ready for WWIII when they go into the woods.

I never have but my dad had a sow charge him in Kisatchie. One shot with a 30-30 dropped her. She had piglets or whatever you call baby wild hogs. All the ones Ive seen either ran off or I shot them.
Like Deacon said, probably more of a bluff than anything.

Like has been said, a bluff misinterpreted as an attack. I've caught shoats with a sow 15 yards from me. She talked a bunch of shite, but you stand your ground and its mostly shite.

My dad has been charged twice by a bore. Once with me and once with my mom. He put 3 round of 00 buck shot into ones head and it Chased him to the car. He got on the roof and shot it a few more times w my moms 20guage.
The other one was with me squirrel hunting. Shot it 3 times in the head with squirrel shot while it was charging him. Last shot he had to move out of the way as it rolled by him. He was as white as a ghost. Took balls to stand his ground on that last shot.
