But there isn't necessarily a direct correlation between risk and return. This was a pretty safe bet by any measure.

Maybe not in the short term, but long-term there is absolutely a correlation. BTW, Nice pick on the ETF. BoJ cash injections are the primary driver of your returns, which US returns can also be explained in much of the same manner. Not that corporations aren't producing strong earnings, but the cash injections are a strong driver.

Very nice play Powerman. I'm still kicking myself for missing the Yen shorting opportunity. I was short July/August last year and wasn't patient enough. I bailed 3 weeks before it headed down and missed a huge opportunity.
On the risk issue, risk can be managed with good use of stops and managing position size etc.

I'm kicking myself for not getting in earlier but I'm pretty new to ETFs and didn't really see the opportunity until later

If you are looking for another Asian opportunity I like the Korean KOSPI for a huge rally towards the end of the year. Still think it has some more downside coming near term though.

Nikkei ETF has been in my ETF portfolio since December, I honestly hadn't even looked at it until you bumped this thread the other day was pleasantly surprised. With index funds or ETFs I just kind of set it and forget it.

Sometimes my "risk" is high when I don't have time to fully research it totally or fully understand it.
It's easier for me to just decide no versus getting into something I did not fully understand and losing.

I disagree
Your graph seems to be talking about individual stocks
This investment is a fund that is comprised of multiple stocks. The risk is already mitigated to a great degree via diversification.

This dude is just a regular fricking George Soros huh? Cruising the globe and making 27% on riskless investments like it ain't no thing. An absolute guru.
Give us a break dude. Congrats on getting lucky. Hope you sold before it tanked too far.
