May I ask who you would consider a great Louisiana governor.....or a great American President? Just wondering?

Sigh. I was speaking about nc tigahs hypothetical in which all students get vouchers.

Apologies. I've just seen so much misinformation put out there by the teachers' unions and school boards in Louisiana, I'm used to having to correct them. Even still, after I correct even my own school board rep, he continues to repeat the lies passed down by the unions and superintendents.

I'm definitely not a Jindal homer. I think he's been guttless on the budget and is more about image, but he's right on the voucher issue.

But I will say I have no issue, argument wise, If public schools are allowed the same exclusivity as private, but morally I know that would never work.

No question in mind that schools will arise and adapt to fill every need if every kid has a $10,000 voucher attached to them.

We will have schools that specialize in thugs, fancy baby sitting schools, vocational schools, art schools, math schools ect

This notion that some kid will be left out just doesn't make sense.

I can foresee districts taking their public schools private.

BUT back to the original point. Jindal is doing nothing to move in this directions. He has done all he intends to do on vouchers--got it on his resume. If he intended to expand them as he should he would be out campaigning in Louisiana.

Anecdotal but public vs private/parochial course study level, collegiate prep, SAT prep, AP Exams performance, SAT subject test scores, subsequent collegiate adjustment and performance is not remotely comparable in this area . . . with the possible exception of our magnets. Magnets have their own issues.

But maybe that's just here. Perhaps kids at Covington HS get every bit as good an education as kids attending St. Paul's. Think so?

I am in Ascension. Our high schools currently have a vocational/college prep track. Vocational students can start taking classes at the technical college during their junior year while college bound students start taking AP courses in 9th grade. I believe SJA, Episcopal and BRMHS are the only schools in our immediate area who do a better job of preparing college bound students.

We are not trying to fix that. We are saying parents who want a choice of a school that caters to poor quality parents and one that doesn't should be given that choice.

kudos to everyone that says parenting is the biggest factor in a child's education.

you have to consider who qualifies for the vouchers. They are taking the lowest income students at the lowest rated schools and putting them in private classrooms. Now from my experience, when you take one dumbass and put them in a classroom with smarter kids the only result is more dumbasses. Its easier for someone to go down than up.

The majority of the parents that are applying for vouchers are doing so because its just more free government cheese.

I've worked hard and I pay good money for my child to go to a school away from the failed public system and the government use my tax dollars to bring the failed system to my child's school. So frick YOU Bobby Jindal.

Don't bother replying with smartass remarks, questions or opinions because I really don't give a frick what you or anybody else that supports this voucher program think.

Peace.

You said "great man" to which I said . Bobby Jindal is anything BUT a great man. He's a coward. Cowards are NOT great men.

ETA: I'm 51 y.o., and I have YET to see a "great Louisiana governor."

I have heard that from parents at my daughter's private school. Does not bother me. Everybody should get vouchers. Schools don't have to take them and I sure there will be schools that will not to satisfy people who do not want them. There will choices for everybody. The idea that the number of private and public schools that exist now will remain the same in such a system is short sighted.

If everybody had voucher I predict we will have a lot of small schools established. Classrooms will be smaller. Teachers will be better paid and parents--even you--will be happier.

Everybody pays the taxes and everybody should get the benefit.

All that said--Jindal has not supported a total voucher system. He will not. He is through with that issue.

Really. how much in taxes do you think the average voucher recipient pays?

Answer. Zero.

This is class integration plain and simple.

Plus tax dollars going to a church run school is unconstitutional.

Louisiana ranks so low mainly because of new Orleans public schools alone. New Orleans is a s*** hole because there's no family structure in the inner city. if I'm wrong prove I am wrong.

interesting characterization. If true, that is one pathetic program.

Actually there are parents in all economic who care deeply for their kids. The opposite is true too.

I don't share that experience in similar situations. Maybe your characterizations of the Louisiana program are accurate though. IDK.

Exhibit A of why I left LA 8 years ago. I lost all my faith in Louisiana politics when KBB bear Jindal - now predictions are he's going to lose if he runs against Landrieu? What a joke.

re: Poll: Jindal Among Nation's Most Unpopular Governors

I am considerably older than 51, and I can tell you I know of at least one other "GREAT" governor [besides Bobby Jindal]. I thought Mike Foster was a pretty good govenor. Prior to Mike Foster becoming governor graft and corruption was so rampant that companies did NOT want to move their operations to Louisiana. It was common practice for politician {including the governor] to demand kickbacks from CEO's before a company would be allowed to move their manufacturing plant to Louisiana. When Mike Foster became governor he worked to end the practice. When he met with representatives from a company considering Louisiana as a location for their operations, he personally asked them to report back to him if any Louisiana politician [state or local] demanded [or implied} any kickback or payoff. Sounds pretty honest to me. Wasn't it under the Foster administration that the LouIsiana legislature finally drafted a Code of Ethics regulating the bidding process for companies doing business in Louisiana? I guess you didn't know that?

Regarding your venomous attack on Bobby Jindal, maybe you don't know the facts. Did you know that a $750 million dollar steel mill is under construction along the Mississippi River south of Baton Rouge? Do you have any idea how many jobs that plant will generate? Thanks to folks like Mike Foster and Bobby Jindal.....Lousiaiana is open for business.

Keep in mind....all individuals are flawed, and the political atmosphere in Louisiana is still murky [remember....there are folks in Louisiana who still worship Edwin Edwards] ) When a "GREAT" govenor like Jindal is forced to deal with crooked Democrats who have a political agenda, you never know what might happen.

Speaking of corruption.....why don't you call Louisiana U. S. Senator Mary Landrieu and ask her why she accepted all that "Louisiana Purchase" money from the obama administration in exchange for her support of obamacare? How about all the "cold cash" the FBI found in that deep freezer over at the Representative [former] William Jefferson residence? Okay....remind me again...what party do both these politicians belong to.....I forgot? There's your healthy dose of sarcasm for today?

Good Day!!

"Venomous attack"? All he/she did was call Gov. Jindal a coward, which to an extend, he/she is correct. Regardless, politicians are called much worse. Don't be a cry-baby.

True. He ends up buying the votes of Democrat and Republican legislators.
