Sorry, but I don't see where this will be any better. The usual suspects will continue to get preferential treatment.

Playoffs have to have set, finite, criteria to determine the participants or it isn't any different than what has been going on forever.

The selection committee will receive a "jury charge" from the commissioners. In ranking the teams, the committee will consider strength of schedule, where the games were played, conference championships and whether teams lost games because of injuries to key players.

In the playoff, the top four ranked teams -- as determined by the selection committee -- will meet in the semifinals.

So, conference championships are borderline meaningless? Here we go...

I don't get that at all. The committee is better than the current system, they will be more accountable. It Sounds like they will put weight to winning a conference. I still think it should be top 4 conference winners or do away with CCG which they will never do. If you a team like UGA this year out because they lost the CCG and Florida who they beat in, because they didn't play in it, that's a problem.

As much as I hate the BCS, I'd rather have unbiased computers determining who gets into a playoff, rather than a 14-20 person committee...

Team A is a 12-1 conference champ. One loss was a total arse beating 52-24 where they just got beat (ala KState last year against Baylor)

Team B is a 12-1 conference champ that lost 14-10 where their stud QB went down early in the first quarter and they kept it close but the backup throws a pick on the final drive

There are differences in losses

what makes you think the computers are unbiased? Who is programing them, what are the criteria? A committee will be known and can be held accountable.

So lets screw Stanford in 2012 for playing a tough game at ND and have Oregon, who they beat at Oregon get in over them. Though Ironically, it would have been the opposite in 2011.

I don't know why people are so scared of a committee, they do a good job with other tournaments. They could correct the errors of polls, like teams moving down for losing late or being ranked higher simply because they have a better record.

A) that's not what we have now. We have the polls and the veneer of the computer polls, but with an understanding they will never overrule the human polls.

B) Unbiased computers are programmed by biased programmers.

Looking at the committee in other NCAA sports, I don't see how anyone could prefer the BCS. It's like wanting the RPI with no checks on non-sensical results.

i'd probably pick team B but not because their QB went down...

what if team A had lost 14-10 but no QB got injured?

this is how they will screw over any potential mid major/non traditional big name threat.

Ohh, well, Ohio State was missing their RB and a CB in the upset loss to a 7-5 Rutgers at home.

Therefor they get the slot over an unbeaten Boise St or Wake Forest.

I actually like that idea less.

The big point to me is that you have 120+ teams, and are narrowing it down to 4. If you look at the rankings after conference championships, you had four teams at 1 loss. Florida and Oregon would have been in over teams that beat them. So it can't go off of straight rankings.

But the selection committee, to me, is there to ensure that #2 from the SEC gets in over the likes of Boise or NIU.

I agree. Why not just use the system that's already in place?

Sure, but the code is set in place before the season begins and it isn't subjective. It's a mathematical formula.

Clearly they aren't perfect but they do not contain irrational bias (other than the methodology)

No conference championship games, play 2 less regular season games. Boom, make a 64 team tournament. Complete pipe dream but I'd love it if the could get this done.
