You have to be careful with a grinder and do a little at a time as to not get the metal too hot. I use a flat file and it is easy to get the angle right.

It's hard as a rock. Normally, I'd use a different phrase but its possible I could get the hammer for using it.

Usin that method, you can turn a cheap pos machete into a very good one.

Either a cane knife or a brush hook which is basically a cane knife with a longer handle. What we used when I worked on a survey crew in college.

This is what you get when you try to find reviews on machetes:

This guy knows his steel.

And

Mother of God

I take mine and grind 1/4-1/2" or so off the back side to shave some weight off. Then tape the handle with baseball bat tape. Keep a file in my pocket to sharpen often. I like hearing a "ping" when I hit something. That's when I know it's right.

A number of years ago 2 buddies and I were cleaning a trail before deer season. 2 cane knifes cutting and one guy was resting and sharpening. I just finished sharpening a blade and my friend wend to cutting. He caught either a branch or vines at a bad angle and caught the top of his forearm near the wrist. It cut to the bone. The doc at the ER remarked how lucky because it was so close to so much important stuff but somehow he missed it all. She also remarked how clean the cut was. I took credit for the recently sharpened blade...

Nice. I had a wooden handle on one break mid-swing and send the blade in my knee. It hit bone and bounced about 10 feet. I puked it hurt so bad. Then puked again when dr stuck a tube in my knee to flush all the pine bark and sap out about 4 hours later.

Silky Machete. Expensive, but the best on the market.

I work for a landscaping company. Week to week we clear a lot of brush. A cheap machete kept to a sharp edge with a grinder is ALL you need to clear overgrown vegetationals.

Ontario Knife Co. They make machetes for the US military. 18" blade and very hard steel. Order from their online store and it is less than $20.00. Not sure about shipping.
