Where could I get one after work? Already checked the two closest Danny and Clyde's but they've been sold out the last two-three days!

Where are you at? They have one in Slidell, one in covington and the one in Metairie. I would go early as it will be tough to get one after work.

I'm in the CBD and currently living in Metairie

I am in the office for 8:30 and with super bowl traffic it's hard to get there before work.

There are a bunch of different ones and they all are kind of different.

Manny Randazzo's is the best and can only be purchased at his shop near Causeway as far as I know.

His ex wife puts out a pretty good king cake. She has a little satelite shop working out of Sal's Snoballs on Metairie Rd.

Also at a diff snowball stand on W. Napoleon near Lafrenere park. And out of Coffee Catering's building across from River Oaks in Harahan.

I picked up a manny's the other day. You need manny's king cake, and you need to do whatever it takes to get one. Easily the best king cake I've had.

I think Manny opens at 6 am or you could go on a Saturday early early to avoid the noobs who stand in line.

I think the Nonna Randazzo's cakes are slightly better than the Manny's or Randazzo's Goodchildren bakeries.

Love me some Nonna's. Fwiw, they all use the exact same recipe. Manny just uses a little more icing.

I agree on Nonna's plus it is less than 3 miles from my house. I still like Manny's in Metry and some small bakery on the Wank makes a kick-arse one. The name escapes me right now.

Think I'm gonna check out the Whole Foods king cakes. BR king cakes aren't that good compared to Nola. Especially in the LSU area...there's zero places around here that sell them except Wal-Mart and Winn Dixie. Their definition of a king cake is a hunk of bread with colored sugar on it. Yeah, I could drive to Ambrosia to buy a king cake but that's at least a 20 minute drive. Whole Foods is closer.

Haydels is a much thicker cake to icing and tons of sugar on it too. Randazzo's has the cake to icing thing nailed and uses sprinkles instead of caking on sugar. Too much sugar and its just gritty imo.
