The Pelicans sounds like a 70's band name to me. Def. not metal though. Would be more like the Beach Boys.

Basketball is the one sport where I don't dislike cheesy, flashy names, logos, uniforms, etc.

Basketball has a history of that kind of thing. It's about soul, flash, etc.

I like the name Thunder. Most people think it is generic, but it actually makes sense due to the team being in Oklahoma.

It would be generic if the team was in Georgia or something...

They don't have any Thunder in the state of Georgia?

Oklahoma has a ton of thunderstorms. Most of the state lies in Tornado Alley characterized by frequent interaction between cold and warm air masses producing severe weather.

Cool logo, but it's merely an inanimate object that fits on a shoe.

Drowning to death dude.

Basketball has become the inner city sport of choice. Those folks can't swim, they get terrified.

When they were in Minnesota it made a ton of sense for the team mascot being in the land of a thousand lakes and all.

I think lakers is one of the more interesting mascots in the nba. The old ones are all cool. Lakers, 76ers, Knicks, Celtics, etc.

Pistons: very original and goes well with Detroit b/c of the auto industry

Celtics: unusual and goes with the strong Irish presence in Boston.

Jazz and Lakers were pretty cool in their original locations and now are just stupid.

Several NBA names are just awful: Wizards, Heat, Nuggets, Thunder, Magic

I like the pelican. Pretty pumped about the change.

I need me a hat or a tee shirt or something.

It's a terrible name. People make fun of the Pelicans for not being intimidating. What's intimidating about a Lake?

The thing about the Lakers is it rolls off the tongue. The Los Angeles Lakers. Sounds good. And since they've been a winning franchise for so long, there's a certain mystique with their name.

The Portland Trail Blazers is one of the best names in professional sports IMO.
