Thought about that. I guess 2009 would qualify after the '07 and '08 seasons.

Thomas Jones for the NYJ had some great years late when that god awful Iowa RB was supposed to take his place.

Can't believe I overlooked him. Oddly enough, he and Priest's 2 best seasons (by far) came in their 6th and 7th year in the league.

Priest Holmes?

Priest Holmes didn't have a mid-career slump. He was misused in Baltimore. I'm a Ravens fan so I know this. He tore it up in his first year with the Ravens. He had two games when he put up 173 and 227 rushing yards against the Bengals. Whenever he got a chance to play, he performed. Then in 1999, Brian Billick became the head coach and for whatever reason, Billick didn't like him and decided that Errict freaking Rhett was a better option to be the starting RB than Holmes. After finally realizing that Errict Rhett was useless, the Ravens drafted Jamal Lewis with the fifth overall pick. Holmes started the first few games in 2000 then Lewis had an impressive game against Miami, took over as the starter, and never looked back. Holmes was always a good running back. For whatever reason, the Ravens just never gave him much of an opportunity after his first year even though he performed pretty well with zero offensive talent around him at the time. The way the Ravens used Holmes still puzzles me to this day but it ended up working out well for the Ravens because Jamal Lewis was an outstanding RB for a number of years and played a major role in the Ravens winning the Super Bowl. Still, I wish the Ravens would have given Priest more of a chance to shine. They definitely made a mistake on that one.

good call on thomas jones

I'll go Warrick Dunn on the Falcons. He went 3 years on the Bucs w/o 1000 yards rushing, then came to the falcons and ran for 1,100+ for three straight years.

I agree with what you said. My buddy and I called Priest Holmes being amazing when he finally got out of Baltimore to KC.

Every time he seemed to play he had a huge day. It was the oddest thing that he never go to play.

I think Thomas Jones is the best answer so far. Every one else mentioned was good but on a shitty team. Someone like Garrison Hearst seems to be in the same ballpark. Great player on the shitty Cardinals gets to San Fran and gets some big years. But that is different than "slumping" in my opinion. More like, forgotten and no one cares what you do on a crap team.
