I know he's been going down hill pretty quickly at least from physical appearances. Does anyone know what kind of time line he's on? Are we to expect him to make it through another full Saints season? What's the deal here?

I believe when he was on Real Sports last year he said he was given like 3 years, but I'm not sure. They may have just been referring to the average

ETA: I found this article too saying average is 3-5 years LINK

It would be epic as hell to for him to see the Saints win another superbowl before time runs out.

Most ALS patients live 2-3 years after diagnosis. I doubt he makes it till the end of next season

I'll be surprised if he doesn't make it to 2014. He's stronger than just about anybody

Most ALS patients aren't Steve Gleason. Hell, Stephan Hawking is over 70 and he's had it for as long as I remember. Btw, here's an article covering the ceremony for the facility he's building.

He was at the San Fran playoff game last year with Fujita and in reasonably good health. Just another reason why I wish they hadn't shite away that win.

He's a fighter, but given how quickly this has progressed I sadly think he's only got a year or 2 left.

Here's to hoping he proves everyone wrong

I always see that billboard across town with his slogan/phrase (don't remember it offhand now). It's the one that's tatooed across his forearm. I'm not a big tatoo guy but always think about getting one when I see that.

Moral of that story is dude is an absolute inspiration.

I was at this function yesterday. It is a really cool facility. My uncle has ALS and a garden at the facility was dedicated to him there as well. He was diagnosed a year before Gleason and, sadly, Steve seems to be progressing faster. I don't really want to get into the man's private life more than that, not that I know anything beyond what was said in his conversation with my uncle. Hawking is very much an outlier, it is usually a 2-5 year window. What Team Gleason is doing is really cool. I would encourage everyone to go to his website and check it out, buy gear and so on. But wait a week or so, I got a virus from the site two days ago, his team knows there's a problem and are going to look into it.

Other things I learned, Brees is not 6 feet tall and Phan is an a-hole.

And thanks for the site update, guess I'll wait a little before my next shirt.

I'm simply saying that the comments made are weird for the most part. Like "a guy like this shouldn't have gotten ALS." So if that is your thought which type of guy should have gotten it? Joe Blow should have gotten ALS instead? Perhaps it's good that a "Guy like this" got ALS in some way because he is able to raise a ton of awareness through his connections and the fact there are so many athlete worshipers out there that will pay more attention simply because a guy played football.

I of course do not want the guy to die or to have a disease.... not what i'm saying

My father in law was diagnosed with ALS 4 years ago, they told us then expect 4-5 years on average. It's sad to see what it has done to him. frick ALS
