Or he figured out he got taken, lied about it to avoid humiliation, then the media ran with it and he didn't have a way to climb down off the ledge he'd gotten himself on.

That is what I keep thinking....even if he was pranked......how do you tell the media,your team and lord knows who else that your "girlfriend- the love of your life" died........when you never saw her,held her hand,or anything else for that matter.
