The hard truth about this season

This season came down to one thing. Injuries and suspensions. We lost
1. Alfred Blue(starting RB)
2. Chris Faulk(first round pick)
3. Honey Badger(Heisman finalist)
4. Alex Hurst(starting RT)
5. Kwon Alexander
6. T. Jones(starting OLB)
7. Josh Williford(staring RG)
8. Luke Muncie
9. Mitch Joseph(best receiving TE)
Tharold Simon and Craig Loston fought foot injuries all year and we lost Minter in the second half of the Florida game which directly resulted in at least 7 points. We were second in the nation in freshman played. We played most of the season with a patchwork Oline and our QB still put up better yards than the previous 4 seasons. Even with all that BS we are a defensive stop and an Odell Beckam fumble away from playing in the SEC championship game. Anybody that has ever coached a sport knows this season although frustrating was pretty impressive considering all the BS we went through.

So that's it? No silly play calls and somewhat questionable QB play?

MORAL VICTORY CHAMPIONS

Doesn't matter. Miles fricked the season up when he held the offense back until we played Bama. Then in the 4th quarter, he played not to lose against Saban instead of playing to win and we lost. Simply put, this one is on Miles just like last year.

So you list all eligible players and then you pick one senior to replace and it's Mitch Joseph. GTFO

Good post OP. I agree, many fans forget all that we had to overcome this year with a new qb as well. Losing the Honey Badger was big on def. and losing Faulk on the o-line was crippling.

Good post. I agree 100%.
Injuries and attrition had the biggest impact to LSU's 2012 season.
It may also be the biggest impact to LSU's 2013 season. 2nd most true freshmen played is going to mean more experience for LSU's 2013 squad.

Well what did it come "down to" during the bowl game. We had a running back that was running all over Clemson and scored two TDs, but doesn't touch the ball in the fourth quarter when we needed three running plays. A stupid time out before the half that should have been called ten seconds earlier.

You're absolutely right.
Sure, we let some games slip away and didn't play great at every opportunity, but many teams and coaches wouldn't even have been in position to win those games after suffering all the losses we did.
It's not an excuse for the screw ups that cost us games, but it sure as hell is necessary to consider when trying to evaluate our season as a whole.

In fact, I'd say the hardest truth about our season is that we just weren't as good as we thought we'd be coming in.
Mett needed time to develop, and he had to do so with a disaster of an OL early on, and WRs that couldn't catch and never established themselves as a deep threat.
The D and ST missed TM immensely, and we never really dominated the way we did in 2011 without him.
Bottom line, this was supposed to be a reloading year after a NC in 2011 losing TM, Brockers, Claiborne, Taylor, Brooks, and perhaps most importantly Randle, and people are criticizing this year the way they are because of what happened on 1/9.
That's the hardest truth of all.

WTF does that even mean?

Must admit that the swagger went out the door when TM7 hit the road. Leadership on the field is still missing on both sides of the ball. If the QB can't create it, we need a lineman to step up and create the bond and confidence. We all will be looking for guys to step up and take charge, O & D,

Good points that are easily overlooked.

Injuries
it's too bad LSU is the only team that deals with injuries. If only we were allowed the special "no-injury pill" like other schools

suspensions.
A direct reflection off the lack of discipline and poor judge of character by the head coach.

Hardly any LSU players touched the ball in the fourth quarter.

Losing the big play ability of the HB in the D backfield and return game was huge. His leadership by example on the field was sorely missed.
The thing with the more than normal injury loses that can go not noticed, is the fatigue impact on the team is increased.
Your 2nd string guys are now starters and your 3rd string guys who were going to barely see the field are now key reserves.
It takes a toll as the season progresses and anyone who thinks that is some kinda silly excuse, is college/SEC football mentally challenged. imo
Does it explain all team failures? Of course not, but it can have a major impact on the team.
