re: Prospective LSU student... Help?

Dude if you can get into UT business school you should go there no questions asked.

I'll shamelessly pitch SMU since its all I can really speak of and it sounds like it would be a good fit.

-30th ranked undergraduate business school. LINK
-58th ranked university overall LINK
-#1 for nightlife per Playboy LINK
-Hot girls
-Beautiful campus
-Huge greek scene
-Dallas is awesome, and a great place to live and work post graduation, especially with your family coming to Texas.
-Saturdays we still watch our SEC schools.

If at all possible take an official visit everywhere you consider, including LSU. Check out rankings and sites like College Confidential, but don't overthink it.

Go, you'll have the time of your life man. I can give you advice on what to do when you get there.

Make sure study as much as you can. A bad GPA your freshmen year can haunt you the rest of your college career. Do some extracurricular, I was a Greek but I can advise you that there's something there for everyone. Go out every weekend/Thursday as much as you can as long as it doesn't effect your studies. Go to as many as sporting events as you can. With this advice young sir, you'll leave Baton Rouge with no regrets.

What High school do you go to in Birmingham? There are some great high schools in Birmingham that will prepare you very well for LSU.
LSU is the best value for your buck in the SEC, even for out of state students.
Also, LSU's business school is the only school in the SEC and I believe in the country that allows its finance students within the business school to take a course that is 100% student-led investing. You invest $1,000,000 of real university money. You take what you've learned and apply that knowledge to the course. It's extremely unique and gives you tremendous real-world experience.

This is true,

but seriously man,
if you got the grades for it, go somewhere else.

I graduate in May.

My thoughts:

I had a blast. There was always something to do.
I met a great deal of cool people.
I enjoyed leaving my hometown and trying a new place.
Football season is a thing of beauty. You won't experience the pageantry anywhere else.
Coursework was hard, but not impossible.

I thoroughly enjoyed my college experience.

Trust me, LSU is indeed a top-notch university. Especially within the business and engineering schools. Look it up if you don't believe me.

Both top 100 in the US.

Not the best, but certainly not the worst either.

It's other colleges in the school which give the university its bad reputation.

If you want to study business and go to an out of state school, apply to the University of Virginia and see if you can get in. Charlottesville is not a terrible place and has a good bit to offer.

I am a senior this year at LSU. Enjoyed every minute of it. So many partys and fun late nights. But if I had a chance I would go to Texas. UT has some very good programs and the campus is nice as shite. Blows LSU out the water

Based on the scholarships being offered when my younger sibling went through the process LSU is no longer offering truly competitive scholarship packages.

The scholarship I received when I started at LSU no longer even exists anymore I don't think.

For highly qualified students that want to stay in the SEC, UF, UGA, and aTm are all better choices most likely, especially if you can get in state at any of those institutions.

I went by myself for the most part. About five people I graduated with went to LSU. We hung out here and there, but I mostly hung out with the people I met here. I lived with a random person my freshman year, and went to BIOS (I would suggest going to STRIPES).

Don't visit Athens next year and convince all of your friends to do the same.

Live in Herget. You take a lot of the same classes as everyone else. Good way to meet girls.
