| Pick a show where a single season brought the entire show down a notch (Posted on 1/3/13 at 2:14 pm)
A lot of shows are very good, but then they have that one arc, or season that keep from being great. For instance The Shield Season 3- not a ton happened other than the continuation of the MT arc. The Decoy Squad was kind of useless, Wyms was ascended into to her holier than thou cunty stage. Without Season 3, The Shield is in the top tier of cable dramas, with it it falls a notch below the big four.

Nearly happened with the second season of the walking dead.

there is no nearly about that, season 2 will forever be a stain on TWD. Speaking of TWD, with yet another new showrunner taking the reigns in Season 4, this series is troubled once again.

Just about every show on TV during the writer's strike.

Season 4 of Seinfeld. Many people regard it as the greatest single season in TV history.

No, it did happen. I guess the ending of season 2 helped redeem the show, but for most of that season the show just wasn't very good.

Lots of HBO shows: -Season 5 of The Wire -Season 3 of Deadwood (because of the too often featured acting troupe) -Would say Sopranos but really the last 2 seasons were disappointing -One of the Six Feet Under seasons was pretty meh, but it picked back up

It wasn't that bad but it did drag, which was admitted by the writers as ABC told them to just "keep it going" with no end in sight. Also watching it live contributed to my vote too. The way they staggered out new episodes and constant repeats was enraging.

That was probably the worst season of Scrubs. Including the ABC years. ETA: Season 7.

I disagree. While I think it was no doubt the weakest in the series, it just happened to fall after what I think was the strongest season and that hurt it. It still was a great season of television, and I do not think it brought the show down at all.

Season 7 of Homicide didn't happen. Nor did Season 5 of Oz. You imagined it. I don't think a final decline year really drops a show, as that's just the way it goes. What is rare is for a show to decline and then get great again. Maybe Season 7 of West Wing makes up for Seasons 5 and 6.
