I posted this here because I would assume most of the outdoor guys would have dogs and maybe a little experience with this.

She must have cut her foot about 2 months ago, she has been licking it ever since. It got pretty bad to where she was just laying around licking her paw and she couldnt put any pressure on it. We took her to the vet about 2 weeks ago and they gave us some meds and a cone. She has the cone nearly torn to pieces and when it comes off, she goes right back to licking. Any other remedies you guys may know of that I can try?

She is not a hunting dog, just a backyard mut for the kids. Any advice is appreciated.

First, how is the cut? Has it closed and healed?

Mine has bad allergies and likes to chew his paws because they itch. I tried spreading a little Tabasco on them to keep him from chewing and I guess he likes the taste because that didn't stop him. The vet didn't give you any kind of bandage to put on her paw? I know cones are a pain the arse.

The wife's King Charles Spainel got bit by a brown recluse a couple months ago. Brought her to our vet and he cleaned it out real good and did this "cold laser" treatment on it. Some new thing they got not too long ago. I'm not sure if it was the cleaning or the laser but the next day it was 99% better and completely gone within 3 days.

How much did that cost?

OP, dip the dog's paw in a vinegar/water solution.

I cant imagine if the cone is on correctly that the dog could get it off all too often. I'd just call the vet and get another cone.

Sounds like the cone used may have been too short or not tight enough around the neck. Cones are a pain to deal with, but effective.

I would clean the cut again...peroxide and then dry and put some neosporin on it.

Then I would put gauze and wrap the foot up. If you have a tractor supply or feed store around you may want to swing by there and see what they have.

They sell some bitter apple spray that you can spray on things so dogs don't chew on it. Not sure if you can spray this directly on the dog, but worth a look.

My local feed store had some yuck spray or something that I used on my dog when he developed a lick granuloma from boredom. (thanks ob for that diagnosis)

This is the exact reason I asked if the wound has closed. If it is closed spray some nasty tasting stuff on her foot. Should stop it.

Get a bucket from hardware store and cut btm out and attach to collar or get a cone from vet and attach to collar. They wont like it at first but if they wont stop licking the wound it will not heal. Treat the wound to prevent infection (alcohol, betadine, ointment or if its fresh I have cleaned a paw wound and glued the wound w/ crazy glue) – it will take a while to heal but they have to stop licking it.

The wound is between one of her toes and the heel or the round larger part of the paw. Cant really see a cut, just that the largest part of the paw is not black like the rest of it. Its like she licked the black off, if that makes sense.

She got a little help getting her cone off. I have another dog who is dying to get his friend back. He has been helping her remove the damn cone.

We got some antibiotics, pain meds, and some kind of solution to put in a bowl of water and soak it for 5minutes a day. It looks alot better, but she stills wants to lick it. Is it just a habit now or do you think it is still bothering her?

Bitter yuck, get it at any pet store. Made to spray on furniture so puppys dont chew on everything. Not going to lie, I tasted it, took at least 4-6 hrs to get that shite out of my mouth...

LINK

Even says it works for chewing on paws.
