Re: Gun Control; Illinois going all out

If this gets through, will this be the beginning of the uprising?

quote:

Illinois Senate Democrats advanced legislation late Wednesday to restrict semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity magazines, pressing forward with new gun control measures in the waning days of the session over the objections of firearms groups.
Amid the developments, the Illinois State Rifle Association issued an “urgent alert” to its members warning them that Democratic legislators were trying to push through last-minute anti-gun legislation.
“There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering,” the group stated in its alert. “You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the state police and avoid prosecution.

I've been reading about this for a few days and can't believe nobody has brought this up on the board. Really scary that politicians would attempt this.

It'll never get past the Supreme Court.

Is the sentence that I bolded correct? I know thats the rifle association claiming that, but does the legislation state that there is no grandfathering?

Well in all fairness, it is Illinois, the state in which that beauty Chicago resides in

Ask them how their ban on weapons turned out... Over 500 murders last year alone

yea, but the Ill bill outlaws possession with no grandfathering in all in a very tight window. So unless they can get an immediate stay from a court, the law will force people to turn in their guns and who knows how long until the SC could hear it.

Criminals in Ill must excited about the possibilities ...

It seems like the consensus is that this is almost like a trial run for the far leftwing statists in their gun control attempts.

I would bet that those guns that get turned in get melted so fast that even if a stay happens or is overturned the guns would still be gone. Look at the gun grab after Katrina in New Orleans.

I don't see any mention of compensation the plan, is just to confiscate and sat tough luck?

Would be interesting to see this go through and see what happens in Illinois during the time before it gets overturned at the Il SC or USSC.

Would gun related violence go up or down?

I'd like to know how they would enforce this? If its just a threat of criminal action, I don't think anything would happen.

If it was forced to where cops would go door to door, then violence would escalate.

re: Re: Gun Control; Illinois going all out

quote:

Among other things, House Bill 815 would: - Prohibit anyone without a FOID card from using a commercial shooting range, which in many cases would make it impossible to introduce new shooters to the safe and responsible use of firearms.
- Grant the State Police broad discretion to impose design, construction and operation standards that could shut down most commercial shooting ranges.
- Ban possession of magazines and other feeding devices that hold more than ten rounds of ammunition. A "grandfather clause" would require registration by owners of such devices and give the State Police discretion to impose and charge fees. Registration would require "proof of ownership" that could be impossible for most people to provide, and even registered owners could not transfer magazines within Illinois, except to an heir or a licensed dealer. Transfers of "grandfathered magazines" would have to be reported to the ISP.
- Violations of this magazine ban would be a felony. Failure to report theft or loss of a magazine would be a misdemeanor until the third violation, which would be a felony. House Bill 1263 would:
- Ban, at a minimum, all detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles and pistols. Remington 7400 deer rifles, Ruger 10/22 squirrel guns, Glocks, 1911s, etc. This ban would include about 80% of handguns now sold in the U.S.
- Possibly ban all semi-automatic rifles and even revolvers or single-shot pistols with the capacity to accept muzzle brakes or compensators.
- Ban "assault weapon attachments," so possession of a thumbhole stock, a pistol grip,or a fore-end (a "shroud" that "partially or completely encircles the barrel") would be a crime even if you didn't possess a firearm.
- Ban all .50 BMG rifles. - Contains "grandfather" provisions that would require registration by owners of devices and give the State Police discretion to impose and charge fees. Registration would require "proof of ownership."
- Create felony penalties for violation of this ban on guns or attachments. - Create lost and stolen penalties that would criminalize victims of gun theft.

This might actually be a good thing. Pass it in Illinois, let the test case be fought there, bump it on up to the Supreme Court and they strike it down as unconstitutional and we can quit hearing about it.

The new orleans gun grab is proof pudding on how real the threat is.....and it can happen here

At a time when law abiding citizens needed their guns the most......

It'll pass, but nothing will happen. A TRO will be filed in Federal Court the literal minute the bill passes (it's actually probably being drafts or is drafted as we speak). Someone will give the duty judge a heads up as to what will happen, and the judge and his staff will start work on it the minute it's filed.

The judge will stay the action pending ruling on the TRO almost immediately, especially considering we're talking about a direct assault on the 2nd Amendment.

Absolutely correct, however there is a major difference. The gun grab after Katrina happened in the blink of an eye and people weren't mentally prepared for it.

I know it sounds silly, but knowing it's coming before hand and knowing that everyone else will be rebelling against such unjust laws will embolden people. I seriously doubt this goes over as "smoothly" (if you can call it that) as the Katrina gun grabs.

If they do pass such idiot legislation, I know I'll be sitting back and taking notes with my bag of popcorn.

Fair and Balanced My ***!

ABC News Story on same
quote:

January 2, 2013 (SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) (WLS) -- Two new gun control bills were approved Wednesday night by a Senate committee in Springfield. One bill bans the sale of semi-automatic handguns and rifles. Under the proposal, people who already own them would be able to keep them but must register the guns. A second bill bans high capacity ammunition clips. The bill would limit clips to no more than 10 rounds.
