I know it's a board favorite and I've pretty much netflixed everything else. I can't believe it got cancelled, it is very entertaining. I watched the first two episodes and I am bummed there are only 14.

At least there's Serenity to give you some closure.

Now, how do we get a Freaks and Geeks movie?

There is a movie as well, Serenity. It's a great show.

and Serenity pretty much ties up all the loose ends you would want tied up.. so there's that as well.

Such a great show. Every time there's a marathon on, I can't help but sit there through three or four eps...even though I have them on DVD.

River might surprise you in the movie

I'd recommend Farscape, but Netflix will be removing it from instant play in 4 days.

Unless you want to watch 88 episodes over those 4.

I lent firefly to a friend and she didn't know there was only one season. she watched the whole thing in about a week and then started searching the internet for season 2. she was pretty pissed it was cancelled.

Someone please give me a nonspoiler synopsis of what Firefly is all about. A couple of sentences will do. I've always heard good things about it, and since it's only one season and a movie, it should be pretty easy to catch up on it. I figure I could catch up on this one before I start a longer series (and while I'm currently rewatching Sports Night intermittently).

Also, is there closure with the series? I think I remember asking before and people saying that there was, but I'm not sure.

Here's what IMBD says: Five hundred years in the future, a renegade crew aboard a small spacecraft tries to survive as they travel the unknown parts of the galaxy and evade warring factions as well as authority agents out to get them.

It's like the wild west, in the future. The characters are easy to fall in love with and it's very addictive. But, then you get upset by how short the series was...but the movie does help ease the pain a little bit.

You'll like it, don't worry.

It's a space western. There's the Captain/leader, his right hand woman, his wheel man, his lady "blacksmith", a preacher, his muscle/hired gun, a high end madame/prostitute, a doctor and a mysterious stranger. They do smuggler things going from "settlement" planet to planet and avoid the law for a variety of reasons. Everyone has a backstory which unfolds as new bonds are formed. Watch the season in order and end with the theatrical release Serenity and you will not be disappointed. Sad, maybe... but not disappointed.

Sweet. Thanks, fellas. Just bought it on Amazon. Less than $20 total (including shipping) for the series and the movie.

You'll gobble it all up in less than a week and love it.

So I watched the pilot episode over the weekend. It was nothing over-the-top great, but I liked it. I'm interested to see how things flesh out in such a short time (13 episodes). I'm gonna try to average an episode every other day or so, so hopefully I'll be finished in a few weeks.

And the pilot was quite literally a western/space mashup, as they were on horseback for a while.

What's odd is that originally Fox shite canned the pilot. The first episode that aired was the train robbery episode.

The kids and I just finished watching all the episodes. We will catch the movie sometime this weekend hopefully.

The A.V. Club cited several actions by the Fox network that contributed to the show's failure, most notably airing the episodes out of sequence, making the plot more difficult to follow. For instance, the double episode "Serenity" was intended as the premiere, and therefore contained most of the character introductions and back-story. However, Fox decided that "Serenity" was unsuitable to open the series, and "The Train Job" was specifically created to act as a new pilot. In addition, Firefly was promoted as an action-comedy rather than the more serious character study it was intended to be, and the showbiz trade paper Variety noted Fox's decision to occasionally preempt the show for sporting events.

Fox

here is the order they aired. Notice the long breaks you sometimes got between episodes. How they thought a new show that followed a serialized format with a mostly unknown cast could sustain good ratings airing it this way is beyond me.

Episode 02 - September 9, 2002

Episode 03 - September 27, 2002

Episode 06 - October 4, 2002

Episode 07 - October 18, 2002

Episode 08 - October 25, 2002

Episode 04 - November 1, 2002

Episode 05 - November 8, 2002

Episode 09 - November 15, 2002

Episode 10 - December 6, 2002

Episode 14 - December 13, 2002

Episode 01 - December 20, 2002

episodes 11, 12, and 13 went unaired until SciFi burned them off in 2003 in order July 21, 28, and August 4.

I saw that on Wiki.

I started with the first, two-part episode (Serenity 1 & 2). I assume the one you mentioned it next.
